Ministry of Coal crossed the target of Rs 28665 crore in government power market procurement
  • In the last three financial years, the Ministry of Coal and Coal Corporation of India have been witnessing a healthy growth in the government power procurement market. From FY 2020-21 to FY 2023-24, procurement through the Government Power Procurement Market has continued to increase.
  • From FY 2020-21 to FY 2022-23, procurement through the Government Power Procurement Market has shown continuous growth. In the financial year 2020-21, this led to a total power procurement of Rs 477 crore, which increased significantly to Rs 28,665 crore in the current financial year. It has increased from 0.49 per cent in FY 2020-21 to 72 per cent in FY 2023-24 (up to October 15, 2023).
  • 2023, As on October 15, the Ministry of Coal has crossed the government's power procurement target for the current year, reaching Rs 28,665 crore out of the total procurement of Rs 39,607 crore.
  • Ministry of Coal and Singareni Coal Company are leading e-procurement through GEM among all Ministries and PSUs respectively.
Coal Ministry has dispatched a record 500 million tonnes of coal in the first half of the current financial year
  • In the financial year 2023-24, the coal ministry has set a target of 1012 million tonnes of coal to be produced and sent to consumers. As on 17th October 2023, the Ministry has managed to dispatch 500 million tonnes of coal in 200 days between monsoons.
  • In the second half of the fiscal year, production and dispatch rates are generally higher than in the first half of the year. Therefore, coal exports are expected to cross one billion tonnes this year. In the last financial year, 2022, as on November 9, it had reached the milestone of 500 million tonnes of coal dispatch. This year, 23 days earlier, the target of 500 million tonnes of exports has been achieved.
  • Of the 500 million tonnes of coal exports, 416.57 million tonnes are sent to the power sector and 84.77 million tonnes to the non-regulated sector. Coal exports to the power sector increased by 7.27 percent year-on-year and to the unregulated sector by 38.02 percent. As on March 31, 2023, 893.19 million tonnes of coal has been dispatched.
  • It is to be noted that Indian Coal Corporation, Singareni Coal Corporation, and Captive / Commercial Mines have all contributed to this historic achievement by the Ministry of Coal.
Prime Minister inaugurated 511 Pramod Mahajan Rural Skill Development Centers in Maharashtra
  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today inaugurated 511 Pramod Mahajan Rural Skill Development Centers in Maharashtra through a video presentation.
  • These centers established in 34 rural districts of Maharashtra will conduct skill development training programs in various fields to provide employment opportunities to the rural youth.
  • Rural Skill Development Centers will conduct training in various fields to provide employment opportunities to rural youth.
  • Each center will train about 100 youth in at least two vocational courses. The training will be provided by industry partners and agencies under the National Skill Development Council.
  • Establishing these centers will help the region make significant strides in developing highly skilled manpower.
