Technology giant IBM signs MoU with central government in areas of semiconductors, artificial intelligence (AI) and quantum computing

  • In addition to attracting investment in semiconductor technology, efforts are also being made to build a domestic semiconductor manufacturing infrastructure. Similarly, India has set its sights on artificial intelligence, an emerging technology.
  • In this context, technology giant IBM has entered into an MoU with the central government in the areas of semiconductors, artificial intelligence (AI) and quantum computing as part of a significant development in India's semiconductor sector.
  • The agreement was signed in the presence of Rajiv Chandrasekhar, Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology, who has been keenly focusing on India's digitization drive and steps to promote electronics and semiconductor manufacturing in the country.
MoU with TNASDCH and Round Table India
  • An MoU was signed with Round Table India at a function held at the Tamil Nadu Apex Skill Development Center for Healthcare Employment and Training.
  • The event was chaired by Innocent Divya IAS, Managing Director of Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation, Sanju Thomas Abraham, Managing Director of Tamil Nadu Apex Skill Development Center and Rajkumar DRO, Project Director of Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation.
  • Representing Round Table India, Area Chairman of Area 2 Mr. Sujay Sudarshan and Dr. Karthik Narayan, Managing Director, Atulya Senior Care were present. In the joint effort of both parties, they provided employment opportunities in the field of skill development. 
  • The MoU underscores the joint effort to foster an enabling environment for capacity building and employment generation in the health sector. Under the terms of this joint venture, TNASDCH and Round Table India have committed to partner in providing comprehensive career development and skill training in the healthcare sector to students from Round Table's esteemed “FTE” schools.
  • Through this training initiative aims to equip the participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to enhance their employability prospects.
  • Both the organizations are committed to creating a skilled workforce for the youth and contributing significantly to the growth and development of the health sector in Tamil Nadu.
  • In a Union Cabinet meeting chaired by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, a production-linked incentive equivalent to 78 days wages for the financial year 2022-23 has been announced for track keepers, loco pilots, train managers, station managers, supervisors, technicians, technical assistants, pointsmen, ministry employees and other group'. Approved for issue to C' category employees (excluding RPF/ RBSF employees).
  • In recognition of this excellent performance of the railway employees, the Central Government has approved a production-linked incentive of Rs.1968.87 crore to 11,07,346 railway employees. Railways' performance in 2022-2023 was very good. Railways carried 1509 million tonnes of freight. It carried about 6.5 billion passengers. Productive incentives will further enhance the performance of railway employees.
Cabinet approves Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS)- Green Energy Corridor (GEC) Phase-2 for 13 GW renewable energy project in Ladakh
  • Prime Minister Shri. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by Narendra Modi gave the approval today. The target has been set to implement the scheme within the financial year 2029-30 with the central government financial assistance of 40 per cent i.e. Rs 8,309.48 crore and a total estimate of Rs 20,773.70 crore.
  • Considering the complex topography, adverse climate and security situation of the Ladakh region, the Electricity Corporation of India will be the implementing agency for the project.
  • The project will be implemented in addition to the Inter-State Transmission System-Green Energy Corridor Phase-II, which is already being implemented in Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh. Under this project, a target of Rs.12,031.33 crore has been set for construction of 10,753 km of power transmission lines and 27546 MVA capacity substations.
  • In the 2024-25 marketing season, Prime Minister Shri. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by Narendra Modi has given its approval.
  • It has been approved to increase the minimum support price to Rs 425 per quintal for Mysore pulses and Rs 200 per quintal for rapeseed and mustard. Wheat and saffron are hiked by Rs 150 per quintal. An increase of Rs 115 and Rs 105 per quintal has been approved for barley and groundnut respectively.
  • Increase in Minimum Support Price for Rabi Crops for 2024-25 Marketing As per the Union Budget notification for 2018-19, it has been noted that the minimum support price will be fixed at a level of at least 1.5 times the estimated all-India average cost of production. 
  • followed by 98 percent for rapeseed and mustard; 89 percent for lentils; 60 percent for gram; 60 percent for barley; The price of saffron has been increased by 52 percent. This will ensure remunerative prices to farmers and encourage production of a variety of crops.
New governors appointed for Odisha and Tripura states
  • President Draupadi Murmu has ordered the appointment of new governors for Disa and Tripura states.
  • Accordingly, former Chief Minister of Jharkhand Raghubar Das has been appointed as the Governor of Odisha. Similarly, Indrasena Reddy Nallu, a BJP executive from Telangana, has been appointed as the Governor of Tripura.
  • Odisha Governor-designate Raghubar Das is a former employee of Tata Steel. He was the Chief Minister of Jharkhand from 2014 to 2019. Currently, he is working as the national level vice president of BJP.
  • Mr. Nallu is a BJP leader from Telangana and a member of the BJP National Executive Committee. Now he has been appointed as the Governor of Tripura.
