Aditya L-1 successfully launched to explore the outer part of the Sun

  • ISRO announced 'Aditya-1' in January 2008 to explore the Sun at a distance of 15 crore kilometers from Earth. In this, a spacecraft weighing about 400 kg was launched 800 km from Earth. ISRO planned to explore the outer reaches of the Sun by stationing it at altitude. 
  • But the hot corona region of the Sun is 15 lakh km from the Earth. The scientists thought they could make a more accurate study from the distant Lagrangian Point One. Aditya-1 project became 'Aditya L-1' project as we progressed in technology accordingly. For this, the Indian scientists designed a state-of-the-art spacecraft named Aditya L-1.
  • In this, Aerophysics Research Centre, University Center for Astronomy and Space Physics, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research played an important role.
  • The Aditya spacecraft was launched yesterday by a PSLV C-57 rocket from Launch Pad 2 of the Satish Dhawan Center in Harikota, Andhra Pradesh. After about an hour of travel, 648 km from the ground. Aditya was successfully released into high-altitude, low-Earth orbit.
Announcement of 8-member high-level committee to study 'One Country, One Election'
  • Ever since the formation of the BJP government in the union in 2014, it has been insisting on the 'One Nation One Election' plan of holding simultaneous elections to the Lok Sabha and state legislatures.
  • In support of this idea, the Union Law Commission submitted a draft report in 2018. In it, 'simultaneous elections can be held only through appropriate amendments in the Constitution. It recommended that at least 50 per cent of the states should accept the constitutional amendment'.
  • Also, a committee headed by former President Ram Nath Kovind will be formed to examine the possibility of holding simultaneous elections. In this context, the Union Law Commission has officially announced an 8-member high-level committee to conduct studies on holding simultaneous elections. 
  • Former President Ram Nath Kovind as the Chairman of the Committee, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Congress Lok Sabha Speaker Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary, Rajya Sabha Former Opposition Leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, Former Finance Commission Chairman NK Singh, Lok Sabha Former Chief Secretary Subhash Kashyap, Senior Advocate Harish Salve and former corruption Sanjay Kothari, Commissioner of Prevention Department, has also been appointed as member.
  • Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Maghwal will attend the high-level committee meetings as a special invitee. It has been announced that Legal Affairs Secretary Nithan Chandra will also be the secretary of the committee.
The Union Minister laid the foundation stone for the country's first seaweed park - Ramanathapuram
  • At Valamavur near Tiruppalaikudi in Ramanathapuram district, the foundation laying ceremony for setting up a multi-purpose seaweed park at a cost of Rs.127.71 crore was held by the Department of Fisheries. Union Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairy L. Murugan presided over this. It is noteworthy that this is the first multi-purpose seaweed park in India.
