Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft discovered the presence of 7 types of elements including oxygen at the South Pole of the Moon
  • The Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscope (LIBS) instrument on the lunar south pole rover has unequivocally confirmed the presence of sulfur on the lunar surface.
  • ISRO also confirmed the presence of aluminium, calcium, iron, chromium, titanium, manganese, silicon and oxygen as expected. ISRO also announced on its 'X' social media page that the search for hydrogen is underway.
  • It is noteworthy that the LIBS instrument which detected the elements was developed at ISRO's Electro-Optics Systems (LEOS) Laboratory in Bengaluru.

  • President Mrs. Draupadi Murmu received nomination papers from Ambassadors of Estonia, Ukraine, Burkina Faso and Norway at a function held at the President's House (August 29, 2023). Details of those who have submitted their nomination papers:

  • 2. Dr. Alexander Polishuk, Ambassador of Ukraine
  • 3. Dr Desire Boniface Somme, Ambassador to Burkina Faso
  • 4. Her Excellency Mrs May-Ellen Stener, Ambassador of Norway
India and New Zealand sign MoU to enhance cooperation in civil aviation sector
  • The India-New Zealand governments have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to enhance cooperation in the field of civil aviation. This will include the planning of new routes, code sharing services, traffic rights and capacity ownership.
  • The MoU was signed in the presence of Indian Civil Aviation Minister Mr. Jyotiraditya M. Scindia and New Zealand's Minister of Trade and Export Development, Agriculture, Biosecurity, Land Information and Rural Community Welfare Mr. Damian O'Connor and Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation Mr. Rajiv Bansal. and New Zealand Ambassador Mr. David Pine signed.
  • An Air Services Agreement between New Zealand and India was signed in Auckland on 1 May 2016. The Government of New Zealand and the Government of India have reviewed the current arrangements regarding air services between the two countries. The MoU signed today is expected to further strengthen bilateral ties in civil aviation between the two countries.
  • According to this MoU, the New Zealand airline can operate any number of services to six destinations in India: New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad and Kolkata.
  • Indian airlines can operate any type of flight from the Republic of India to Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and three more destinations in New Zealand.
Union Minister Mr. Arjun Munda launched awareness drive and training program for practitioners to eradicate Sickle Cell Anemia
  • Union Tribal Welfare Minister Mr. Arjun Munda inaugurated the 'Awareness Campaign Movement and Training Program for Trainers' in New Delhi today (29-08-2023) as part of the drive to eradicate Sickle Cell Anemia.
  • The program aims to train personnel to create awareness among people, especially in tribal areas.
  • In the Budget 2023-24, the Union Government announced a drive to eradicate sickle cell anemia by 2047. 
  • The drive involves creating awareness, screening and counseling 7 crore people under the age of 40 in affected tribal areas through collaborative efforts. The movement was formally launched by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on 1st July 2023 in Shahdol district of Madhya Pradesh.
NITI Aayog and UNDP Sign MoU to Accelerate Sustainable Development Goals
  • Underscoring their mutual commitment to accelerate progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals, NITI Aayog and the United Nations Development Program in India (UNDP India) signed an MoU to formalize collaboration in several areas including data-based monitoring, progressive districts and circles.
  • Dr. Yogesh Suri, Senior Adviser on Sustainable Development Goals, Niti Aayog and Ms. Shoko Noda, UN Development Program Representative in India signed the agreement in the presence of Mr. PVR Subramaniam, Chief Executive Officer, Niti Aayog.
  • This MoU has been signed for 5 years. NITI Aayog is the body for coordinating the implementation and monitoring of the Sustainable Development Goals at the national and sub-national levels.
