Inauguration of 'Prime Minister's Green Innovation Project' for environmental protection
  • On behalf of the Department of Environment and Climate Change, Chief Minister M.K.Stalin launched the project 'Chief Minister's Green Intelligence Project' from the Chennai Chief Secretariat to spread awareness about climate change and help fulfill the green dreams of the districts.
  • The project will work under the Department of Environment and Climate Change. Anna University's Institute for Energy Studies will act as the intellectual partner of the project. Project Leader, 40 Green Activists, 4 Research Associates have been selected for this project based on merit.
Rs 4,276 crore seawater desalination plant near Chennai - CM Stalin lays foundation stone
  • Chief Minister M.K.Stalin laid the foundation stone for the construction of a 400 million liter capacity seawater desalination plant at Perur near Chennai, the largest in Southeast Asia at a cost of Rs 4,276.44 crore. 
  • This project is being implemented by the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board with the financial support of the Japan International Cooperation Agency. The foundation stone has been laid for the sea water desalination plant with a production capacity of 400 million liters per day.
  • It is the largest station in South East Asia. The works will be completed by 2026 and brought to public use.

  • President Mrs. Draupadi Murmu (August 21, 2023) received nomination papers from the Ambassadors/High Commissioners of Venezuela, Colombia, Algeria, Brazil, Australia, Netherlands. Those who submitted their nomination papers:
  • 1. Her Excellency Ms. Cabaya Rodriguez Gonzalez, Ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela
  • 2. His Excellency Victor Hugo Echeverri Jaramillo, Ambassador of the Republic of Colombia
  • 3. His Excellency Ali Achoui, Ambassador of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria
  • 4. His Excellency Kenneth Felix Hasinski da Nobrega, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Brazil
  • 5. His Excellency Philip Green, Australian High Commissioner
  • 6. Her Excellency Mrs. Marie Louisa Gerards, Ambassador of the Netherlands
Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA) MoU with Govt
  • The Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IRETA), a Mini Ratna (Category-1) agency under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, has signed a performance-based MoU with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India. 
  • This MoU outlines the long-term strategic goals that IRETA intends to achieve during the financial years 2023-24 and 2024-25 in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Department of Public Enterprises, Ministry of Finance.
  • As per the agreement, the central government has set a revenue target of Rs 4,350 crore in 2023-24 and Rs 5,220 crore in 2024-25. It is noteworthy that the revenue of Rs.3,482 crore was earned against a target of Rs.3,361 crore in the previous financial year.
  • In this agreement Mr. Bhupinder Singh Bhalla, Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), IRETA Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Mr. Pradeep Kumar Das dated August 21, 2023. On that day, Atal signed at Akshay Urja Bhavan in New Delhi. Their senior officials also attended the event.
