World Shooting Championships - India's Isha, Shiva pair stunning gold
  • India's Isha Singh and Shiva Narwal faced off against Turkey's Leta Darhan and Yusuf Dikek in the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Teams final in Baku, Azerbaijan. Isha and Shiva won the gold medal with a score of 16-10.
  • Meanwhile, in the 10m air rifle mixed teams category, Indian pairs did not make it past the qualification round. Meghuli Ghosh and Aishwari Pratap Singh Tomar combined for 630.2 points and finished 9th in disappointment. Another Indian pair of Ramita and Divyansh Singh Panwar finished 17th with 628.3 points.
  • In the women's skeet category, the Indian team consisting of Parinas Thaliwal and Kanemat Sekon finished 4th with 351 points and missed out on a medal. In this series, India is 2nd in the medal list with one gold and one bronze. China dominates the top spot with 5 gold and 2 bronze.
One Crore Tree Saplings Plantation Program in Ramanathapuram- Chief Minister launched
  • Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin (18.8.2023) in a program held at Ramanathapuram Research House, one crore saplings will be planted in Ramanathapuram district under the Green Tamil Nadu movement. He inaugurated the project by giving saplings to the beneficiaries.
  • With the aim of increasing the forest area through the Chief Minister's dream project, Green Tamil Nadu, one crore saplings are planned to be produced in Ramanathapuram district and are being cultivated throughout the district through various departments. Gooseberry, wagai, bamboo, banyan tree, royal tree, fig, lotus, avai tree, oleander. Saplings like Bungan, Vanni, Guava and Poovarasu are being produced.
  • The work of planting one crore saplings in Ramanathapuram district will be completed by January next year.
NLC India Limited signs long-term power utility agreement with Rajasthan for 300 MW solar power project
  • The company has acquired 510 MW of solar power project capacity through competitive bidding under the Phase-II Phase-III of the Central Public Sector Undertaking Scheme released by the Renewable Energy Development Agency of India. 
  • A solar power project capacity of 300 MW is operational at Parsingsar in Bikaner district of Rajasthan. The contract for the project has been awarded to Tata Power Solar Systems through competitive bidding.
  • The agreement to supply solar power to the state of Rajasthan for the next 25 years was signed between NLC India Limited and Rajasthan Urja Vikas Nigam Limited on 17 August 2023 in Jaipur. It was signed by Mr. TK Jain, Director (Finance) of Rajasthan Urja Vikas Nigam Limited and Mr. TB Singh, General Manager of NLC India Limited.
  • Through this project, 750 million units of electricity will be generated annually and the total green electricity will be supplied to the state of Rajasthan. The scheme will help Rajasthan state meet its renewable electricity procurement targets.
  • The electricity generated through this project will help reduce CO emissions by 0.726 million tonnes every year. In terms of renewable energy, apart from the existing 1.40 GW generation capacity in Tamil Nadu, this is the first time that NLCIL is expanding this capacity in other states. 
  • NLCIL currently has a renewable energy capacity of 1,421 MW. As per the company's corporate plan, it plans to install 6,031 MW capacity by 2030.
