Sumariwala selected as vice-president of the World Athletics Federation
  • The election of the World Athletics Federation's executives was held in Budapest, Hungary over the past two days. Sebastian Coe from Britain has been re-elected as the chairman. Since 2015, Sebastian Co has been acting as Chairman. His tenure is 4 years.
  • According to the rules of the World Athletics Federation, it is not possible to contest for the 4th term as president. This will be the last time 66-year-old Sebastian Coe will serve as chairman. Adil Sumariwala, president of the Athletics Association of India, Jackson Duwey, president of the Kenya Athletics Association, Ximena Restrepo of Colombia, and Raul Sabato of Spain were selected as vice-presidents.
  • Out of 8 candidates for the post of Vice President, 4 candidates including Sumariwala won by getting maximum number of votes. Sumariwala, 65, will hold the post of vice president for four years. The 4 elected vice-presidents will also sit on the governing body of the World Athletics Federation.
  • With this, Sumariwala has become the first Indian to be inducted into the world's most powerful athletics governing body. The Executive Committee consists of the Chairman, four Vice-Chairmen, three appointed members and a Chief Executive Officer. This committee takes all kinds of high-level decisions.
World Cup Archery (Stage-4) - Two bronze for India
  • Archery World Cup (Stage-4) is going on in France. In the 'Recurver' category, India's men's team consisting of Adanu Das, Thiraj and Prabhakar lost to Chinese Taipei 0-6 in the semi-finals. They then met Spain in the bronze medal match. 
  • The Indian men's team won the bronze medal with a score of 6-2. In the women's extreme women's 'Recurve' category, India's Bhajan Kaur, Ankita Kaur and Simranjeet team took the stage. In the semifinals, the Indian women's team fell to Chinese Taipei 4-5.
  • India and Mexico clashed in the bronze medal match. The score was tied at 4-4. In the ensuing 'shoot-off', the Indian women won the bronze medal 5-4.
President dedicates INS Vindhyagiri warship to the nation
  • Under the project 'Project A', warships with ultra-modern defense features are being produced locally for our Navy. Already, five warships namely 'Nilagiri, Udayagiri, Himgiri, Taragiri, Tunagiri' have been dedicated to the country. 
  • These warships are named after mountains and mountain ranges in different parts of the country. Accordingly, the sixth vessel, named Vindhyagiri after the Vindhyagiri mountain range in Karnataka, was being designed at Garden Reach Shipbuilders in Hooghly, Kolkata, West Bengal. 
  • In this case, President Drabupati Murmu dedicated this ship to the nation at a ceremony held in Kolkata yesterday.
Two reforms have been introduced for the protection of mobile users to promote a clean and secure digital ecosystem
  • Reinforcing the Union Government's commitment to promote an inclusive digital society while maintaining the highest standards of security and customer protection, the Minister for Telecom, Railways, Electronics and Information Technology Mr. Ashwini Vaishnav announced two reforms to improve digital transformation and customer protection (KYC reforms, Point of Sale (POS) ) , registration reform) introduced today
  • Point of Sale (POS) Registration Reforms—This reform introduces a process for compulsory registration of licensees, agents and distributors (POS). This will help in eliminating POSs that are providing SIMs to anti-social / anti-national forces through fraudulent practices.
  • KYC Reforms – KYC is a process of uniquely identifying a customer. To prevent misuse of printed Aadhaar, demographic details will be mandatorily obtained by scanning the QR code of the printed Aadhaar. Once the mobile number is disconnected, it will not be assigned to any other new customer until the expiry of 90 days. A subscriber will have to undergo full KYC to change his SIM and there will be a 24-hour ban on outgoing and incoming SMS facilities.
India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Trinidad and Tobago on India Stake Sharing
  • India and Trinidad and Tobago have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to share the India Stack, a set of digital public goods aimed at facilitating identity, data and payment services at scale.
  • Both sides agreed to cooperate in areas such as digital transformation through capacity building, training programs, exchange of best practices, exchange of government officials and experts, and development of pilot or process solutions.
  • The MoU was signed in the presence of officials from Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, National E-Governance Division and Ministry of External Affairs.
