The Prime Minister met His Excellency Mr. Yoshihide Suga, Former Prime Minister of Japan and Chairman of the Japan-India Alliance
  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today met His Excellency Mr. Yoshihide Suga, former Prime Minister of Japan and Chairman of the Japan-India Alliance. Mr. Suga is visiting India with a "Ganesha no Kai" group of Members of Parliament and more than a hundred representatives including members of Keitanran (Japan Trade Federation) and government officials.
  • The Prime Minister welcomed Mr. Suga, who is visiting India for the first time as the President of the Japan-India Alliance. The two leaders then discussed further strengthening Japan-India global partnership and friendship, including investment and economic cooperation, railways, people-to-people contacts, and capacity building partnerships.
  • The Prime Minister engaged in constructive discussions with members of the Parliamentary Group "Ganesha No Kai" on strengthening parliamentary ties between the two countries. Welcoming the growing popularity of Yoga and Ayurveda in Japan, they discussed further strengthening India-Japan cultural ties.
  • Welcoming the members of the Kaidanrun, the Prime Minister highlighted the reforms undertaken in the country to improve the business environment. He called upon Japanese investors to expand their investments in India and explore new avenues of cooperation.
IIT Chennai in Tanzania Signing of MoU
  • There are 23 IITs operating across the country. IIT Chennai has been ranked first in the ranking list published by the National Education Center Ranking Framework (NIRF). Foreign Minister Jaishankar has gone on a four-day tour to Tanzania. 
  • There, the agreement was signed in the presence of President Hussain Ali Muvinyi and Indian Foreign Minister Jaishankar in the Tanzanian island country of Zanzibar. This complex reflects the long-standing friendship between India and Tanzania. 
  • It is a reminder of India's focus on building rapport with people in Africa and the Global South. According to the agreement, the academic programs, curricula, student selection features and teaching details of the IIT to be set up in Tanzania will be carried out by IIT Chennai. 
  • The students studying here will also be awarded a degree by IIT Chennai. The expenses for this will be borne by the Government of Zanzibar - Tanzania.
The Indian Navy (IN) and the US Navy (UN) conducted a Destructive Protection and Explosive Ordnance Disposal exercise called Salvex
  • The Indian Navy and the US Navy conducted an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) exercise, Chalvex, from June 26 to July 06 in Kochi. These forces have been participating in joint destruction prevention and EOD exercises since 2005. 
  • These include Indian Navy's INS Nireekshak and US Navy's Salwar. For more than 10 days, the swimming teams of the two countries shared experiences on maritime rescue and jointly trained on various aspects of land and sea EOD operations.
