Aadhav Arjuna became the President of Indian Basketball Association

• The election was held for the post of president of Basketball Association of India. Out of the total 39 votes, Aadhav Arjuna won by getting 38 votes. Former player and president of Madhya Pradesh Basketball Association, Kulwinder Singh, was selected as the general secretary. 
• Ajay, Donald Steven Wahlong, Lalrinavma Hnamde, Manokara Kumar, Norman Isaac, Ralin de Sousa, Seema Sharma were elected as Vice Presidents and D. Sengalraya Naidu as Treasurer. Chakraborty, Munish Sharma, Pradeep Kumar, Prakash Chandoo and Surya Singh have been selected as Deputy Secretary.

Appointment of Chief Justices of Telangana and Kerala as Supreme Court Judges

• The Supreme Court has 34 judges along with the Chief Justice. Due to the retirement of 3 judges last month, there are only 31 vacancies. In this situation, the collegium consisting of judges Sanjay Kishan Kaul, Sanjeev Khanna, PR Kavai and Suryakant held a meeting under the leadership of Chief Justice Chandrachud. 
• The collegium headed by Chief Justice Chandrachud recommended the appointment of Telangana High Court Chief Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Kerala High Court Chief Justice Venkatanarayana Bhatti as Supreme Court judges. 
• Justice Ujjal Bhuyan was appointed as Guwahati High Court Judge in Assam on October 17, 2011. Justice Venkatanarayana Bhatti has been appointed as the Judge of Andhra High Court on 12th April 2013.

Directorate General of Civil Aviation MoU with European Union Aviation Safety Agency

• The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has signed a memorandum of understanding with the European Union Aviation Safety Agency for piloting innovative unmanned aviation systems. The MoU will focus on unmanned aviation and aviation integration with innovation between the two aviation directorates.
• And this MoU is expected to be helpful for the growth of the unmanned aviation industry in India. The agreement also provides for the conduct of training programmes, workshops and conferences by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, European Union, Civil Aviation Agency.
• The Directorate General of Civil Aviation signed with the European Union Aviation Safety Agency a plan for unmanned aviation and innovative aviation during the EU-India Aviation Conference held on April 22, 2023 in New Delhi.

Personal Digital Data Protection Bill - Union Cabinet approves

• The Digital Personal Data Protection Bill 2023 has been drafted to recognize the right of individuals to protect their personal data and related matters. A penalty of Rs 250 crore has been imposed on companies violating the provisions of this Act.
• The Union Cabinet has approved the bill. The Monsoon Session of the Parliament will begin on the 20th of next month and continue till the 11th of next month. Then the bill will be tabled in Parliament. 
• No blanket exemption has been given to all government institutions. The Data Protection Board will finalize any disputes arising therefrom. If anyone is affected, they can approach the civil courts and seek relief.
