GST collection for June was Rs 1.61 lakh crore
- The Goods and Services Tax (GST) was introduced in 2017 to bring uniform taxation across the country. Since then, the Union Finance Ministry has been releasing information about the GST collection every month. The total GST collection in the month of June was Rs.1 lakh 61 thousand 497 crore.
- Of this, Union GST is Rs.31,013 crore. State GST collection is Rs 38,292 crore. Consolidated GST was Rs 80,292 crore. 11,900 crores of cess tax. 12 percent more tax has been collected than the same month last year.
- It has been said that the collection has exceeded Rs.1.60 lakh crore for the 4th time since the implementation of GST. The highest GST collection till date was Rs 1.87 lakh crore last April. It is worth noting that the GST collection for last May was Rs.1.57 lakh crore.
- Senior Advocate Tushar Mehta was appointed as the Solicitor General of the Central Government on 10 October 2018. Subsequently, his tenure was extended twice.
- Solicitor General Tushar Mehta has been extended for another 3 years. Similarly, Additional Solicitor Generals Vikramjit Banerjee, KM Nataraj, Balbir Singh, SV Raju, N. Venkataraman and Aishwarya Patti have also been given extension of 3 years.
- Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi today launched the National Sickle Cell Anemia Eradication Drive at Shahdol in Madhya Pradesh and distributed genetic status cards to the beneficiaries.
- The movement aims to address the health challenges posed by sickle cell disease, particularly those faced by indigenous peoples. The main objective of the government is to eradicate the disease completely by 2047. The disease eradication program was announced in the 2023 budget.
- The drive will be implemented in 278 districts belonging to 17 priority areas of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Bihar, Uttarakhand.
- The Prime Minister also inaugurated the distribution of around 3.57 crore Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana cards in Madhya Pradesh. During the event, the Prime Minister honored Queen Durgavati, who ruled Gondwana in the mid-16th century.
- The government has revised crop waste management guidelines for better management of crop wastes produced in Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.
- As per the revised guidelines, a bilateral agreement will be entered into between the farmers and the companies using hay. The government will provide financial assistance to purchase machinery and equipment to recycle crop waste.
- 65% of the funding will be provided jointly by the Central and State Governments in the project assessment. Companies acting as primary consumers of recycled raw materials will contribute 25%.
- Benefits of this initiative;
- Over a three-year period, the fields are expected to collect 1.5 million metric tons of crop residues to be burned.
- Air pollution caused by burning saplings will be reduced significantly.
- The resulting straw is used in electricity, ethanol, biogas production etc.
- This will lead to new investments in biofuels and energy sectors.
- Indian Navy ships INS Rana and INS Sumedha conducted maritime joint exercise with French Navy ship FS Surcouf on June 30, 2023 in Bay of Bengal. From June 26 to 29, Surcouf, which was in Visakhapatnam, participated in various operations along with Indian Navy vessels.
- While departing Visakhapatnam, FS Surcouf conducted various exercises including anti-aircraft air defense and cross-deck helicopter operations along with Indian Navy ships Rana and Sumeda. The exercise symbolizes the strong friendship between the Indian Navy and the French Navy.
- Earlier this year on March 10 and 11, frigate FS La Fayette conducted a joint maritime exercise with INS Sahyadri.
