450 crore allocation for disaster relief fund for Tamil Nadu
- The State Disaster Relief Fund is provided on the recommendation of the Finance Commission under Article 280 of the Constitution of India. This financial assistance is provided to meet the expenses of providing relief to the affected people during 12 types of calamities such as rains and floods.
- Recently, the central government has given approval to provide relief to people during calamities. In this case, the central government has given Rs. 7,532 crore as disaster relief funds to 22 state governments. An allocation of Rs.450 crore has been made for Tamil Nadu.
- Out of the funds released to 22 states, the maximum is Rs.1,420.80 crore for Maharashtra, Rs.712 crore for Uttar Pradesh and Rs. 707.60 crore has also been released. This fund will go a long way in providing relief to the people during calamities. It is also said to be helpful in facing the time of calamity.
- The Office for National Statistics has released data on the country's retail inflation for the month of June. In this, consumer price index (CPI)-based retail inflation was noted at 4.81 percent. Inflation increased again after 3 months. It is noteworthy that retail inflation was 5.66 percent in March and 4.31 percent in May.
- According to the government, the price of food grains and pulses has gone up sharply across the country due to heavy rains, which has led to an increase in retail inflation. Food inflation stood at 4.49 percent in June.
- This was 2.96 percent in May. Statistics show that inflation in rural areas is 4.72 percent and in urban areas it is 4.96 percent. However, food inflation was slightly higher than the national average in rural areas.
- There are only 30 judges in the Supreme Court due to the retirement of 4 judges. Subsequently, the collegium headed by Chief Justice Chandrachud recommended the appointment of Telangana High Court Chief Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Kerala High Court Chief Justice Venkatanaraya Bhatti as Supreme Court judges on July 5. The Union Government has accepted this and issued a notification.
