International Yoga Day Celebration 2023
  • Every year since 2015, June 21 is celebrated as International Yoga Day. The 9th International Day of Yoga was celebrated in that way. President Drabupati participated in Murmu Yoga at the President's House in Delhi. Vice President Jagadeep Dhankar, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and others participated in the yoga program in Madhya Pradesh.
  • Likewise, Union Ministers Rajnath Singh, Smriti Irani, Piyush Goyal, Ashwini Vaishnav and others participated in the programs held in various states.
  • In particular, the railway minister did yoga with 7 thousand people at the Balasore area where the train accident took place in Odisha. Students, public and celebrities from the film industry participated in the yoga program.
  • Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla participated in a yoga program held in the Parliament complex. A yoga program was held at the Supreme Court under the leadership of Chief Justice Chandrachud. Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan participated in a yoga program held in Puducherry. Security forces practice yoga near Pangong Daso river in Ladakh.
  • 11 lakh people from NCC took part in the yoga program from Lake Nagar to Kanyakumari in Kashmir. More than 100 places of special yoga were introduced on behalf of the Indian Army. 
  • Indian Navy celebrated Yoga Day on board ships. Soldiers performed yoga on naval ships including Gildan, Chennai, Shivalik, Sanayana, Trisul, Targash, Waghir, Sumitra and Brahmaputra.
9th International Yoga Day Festival 2023 at UN Headquarters
  • Accepting the invitation of US President Joe Biden and his wife Jill Biden, Prime Minister Modi went to the US on a 4-day official visit. Prime Minister Modi participated in the 9th International Day of Yoga at the UN Headquarters in New York as the first event of the 2nd day of this important visit. Hundreds of people were arranged to do yoga on the North Lawn of the UN headquarters.
  • Since 6 am, a large number of Indians and Americans had been queuing up to participate in the yoga program. Dressed in a white yoga t-shirt and white pants, Prime Minister Modi arrived at the UN headquarters and paid floral tributes to the bust of Mahatma Gandhi. 
  • This was followed by an international yoga program at 7 am. Representatives from 180 countries performed yoga under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi. In this, the President of the 77th Session of the United Nations Assembly, Saba Korosi, Hollywood actor Richard Gere, New York City Mayor Eric Adams, and United Nations Deputy Secretary General Amina J. Mohammed participated in the event.
  • LED screens were set up on the lawns broadcasting Indian cultural and traditional videos. Inaugurating the yoga event, Prime Minister Modi began his speech by greeting everyone with 'Namaste'.
  • People from most countries participated in the yoga celebration led by Prime Minister Modi at the UN headquarters and set a Guinness record. Prime Minister Modi was given a Guinness certificate for this.
  • It is noteworthy that Prime Minister Modi is presiding over a yoga event held at the United Nations after 9 years since the International Day of Yoga was announced.
Emergency in Uruguay due to water shortage
  • Due to the severe drought, the country's president Luis Lacalle Pau has declared a state of emergency in the capital and metropolitan areas of Uruguay. Also, the government of Uruguay has announced that the government will provide 2 liters of water for free to 21,000 families in the capital, and that bottled water will be exempted from tax. 
  • The announcement also stated that the government has taken this decision due to the current severe water shortage and the absence of any forecast of rain in the country for the next few weeks. 
  • Due to high temperatures, Uruguay has experienced the worst water shortage in the last 7 months, and the dams, which provide 60 percent of the country's water supply, have dried up, prompting a state of emergency.
Nuclear deal between China and Pakistan
  • The agreement was signed in the presence of Pakistan Prime Minister Chebash Sharif at an event held in the Chinese capital, Beijing. According to this, 1200 MW of electricity will be produced in this nuclear reactor, which will be built at a cost of 39 thousand crore rupees in the Punjab province located near the Indian border.
  • In Pakistan, which is stuck in economic crisis, there is a severe shortage of electricity for a year. Pakistan's energy sector is facing a severe crisis due to last year's floods and Russia-Ukraine war. Last December, the government of Pakistan announced that due to the power outage, businesses should operate only until 8 pm. In this context, the nuclear deal was signed.
First footballer to play 200 international matches
  • One of the star players in the world of football is Cristiano Ronaldo from Portugal. Yesterday, he played in the qualifying round of the Euro Cup football series against the Iceland team. It was his 200th international match. With this, he became the first player to achieve this milestone. It is also a Guinness World Record.
