World Refugee Day aims to recognize the strength of the refugees who have fled the conflicts of their country with the hope of finding sanctuary in a better place. The day also provides an occasion to build empathy and understanding and recognize the resilience of the refugees in rebuilding their lives.
In addition to this, World Refugee Day shines a light on the rights, needs, and dreams of refugees and helps mobilize resources so that the refugees not only survive but also thrive.

WORLD REFUGEE DAY 2023: According to the United Nations 1951 Refugee Convention, “a refugee is someone who fled his or her home and country owing to a well-founded fear of persecution because of his/her nationality, race, religion, political opinion or membership in a particular social group”. WORLD REFUGEE DAY 2023: The United Nations General Assembly adopted Resolution 55/76 on December 4, 2000, stating that from 2001 onward, June 20 will be observed as World Refugee Day every year. The year 2001 celebrated the 50th anniversary of the 1951 Convention relating to the Status of Refugees.
