  • UN REPORT ON PREMATURE BABIES 2020: The World Health Organization and the United Nations Children's Fund jointly launched the 'Born Too Soon; This report, titled 'Decade of Action on Pre-Term Birth', was created through an international survey of more than 140 people from 46 countries. 
  • In 2020, 13.4 million children were born prematurely worldwide; Nearly 1 million babies die prematurely, from multiple complications. Of the babies born, 45 percent are from five countries, including India, China and Pakistan. 
  • The preterm birth rate increased by 1.1 percent in 10 years from 9.8 percent in 2010 to 9.9 percent in 2020. Similarly, in 2020, there are 16.2 percent in Bangladesh, 14.5 percent in Malawi, and 14.4 percent in Pakistan. 
  • Premature birth rates have increased in high-income countries such as the United States, 10 percent, and Greece, 1.6 percent. Premature birth rates have not changed in any part of the world, the report said, and four issues are responsible for this: conflict, climate change, the corona virus and the crisis in the cost of daily living.
  • Air pollution is responsible for 6 million premature births each year, and one in 10 babies born prematurely in the 10 most vulnerable countries affected by humanitarian crises, the report said. The report explains that the 'Emergency' has occurred quietly.
