King Wangchuck of Bhutan meets PM Modi - plans to build a railway line between the two countries
  • King Wangchuck of Bhutan, who is on a two-day visit to India, met Prime Minister Modi in Delhi. At that time, both of them discussed about further strengthening of bilateral relations including economic cooperation.
  • The two discussed further expansion of bilateral relations in various fields including economic cooperation. Bhutan is an important country for India's security interests. Military and defense related relations between the two countries have seen significant progress in the last few years.
  • We are going to speed up the project of building a railway between India and Bhutan. This will be the first railway project between the two countries
India's economy to shrink by 6.3 percent - World Bank forecast
  • While the economic growth of countries around the world has slowed down due to the corona virus and economic recession, India's economic growth is promising for international investors. Earlier, the World Bank had projected India's economic growth at 6.6 percent in the current fiscal year.
  • In this context, the World Bank has announced a reduction in its previous Indian economic growth measurement from 6.6 percent to 6.3 percent. The World Bank has said that economic growth will be slightly slower than expected at 6.3 percent due to current commodity consumption in India and the challenging conditions India is facing. 
  • According to the World Bank report, economic growth slowed slightly due to lower consumer spending due to rising borrowing costs and lower incomes.
Finland became the 31st country to join NATO
  • The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) was created to ensure the political and military security of member states.
  • In this, while 30 countries are already members, Finland and Sweden have expressed interest in joining this organization. While all the existing member states have to ratify it, Turkey and Hungary have delayed ratifying it.
  • In this case, all the countries have approved, Finland will join today as the 31st country. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said this is a historic week.
India-Sri Lanka Annual Bilateral Maritime Exercise
  • The 10th India-Sri Lanka Bilateral Maritime Exercise will be held in Colombo from 3rd to 8th. This training is conducted in two phases. Indian Navy's INS Gilton, indigenously built Camorta Class ASW corvette and patrol vessel INS Savitri will participate in the exercise.
  • On behalf of the Sri Lankan Navy, the ships Gajabaku and Sagara are participating. Maritime patrol aircraft, helicopters and special forces from both sides will participate in the exercise. Earlier this joint exercise was held in Visakhapatnam last year from March 7 to 12.
  • The joint exercise aims to enhance mutual understanding and exchange best practices while undertaking various maritime activities jointly. Professional, cultural and sporting events are planned at port level to further strengthen the bonds of friendship and camaraderie between the two navies.
