World's tallest Ambedkar statue unveiled in Hyderabad
  • The tallest statue of Ambedkar in India stands at 125 feet. The Telangana government has constructed this grand statue and the new Chief Secretariat complex at a cost of Rs.146.5 crores.
  • All these works which have been going on for more than 2 years have been completed and are ready for the opening ceremony. Following this, Telangana Chief Minister and Bharatiya Rashtriya Samithi Party chief Chandrasekhar Rao inaugurated the grand statue and headquarters complex on Ambedkar's birthday. 
  • Then flowers were sprinkled on the idol by helicopter. Heavy security arrangements have been made in Hyderabad for the inauguration of Ambedkar statue.
  • Ambedkar statue has been erected on 11.4 acres at a cost of Rs 146 crore with 360 tonnes of stainless steel and 114 tonnes of bronze. The pedestal on which Ambedkar's statue is placed is designed to look like a Parliament building. A 125 feet tall statue of Ambedkar is placed on a 50 feet high plinth on the banks of Hussain Sagar Lake in Hyderabad.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Northeast's first AIIMS Hospital - Guwahati
  • In the northeastern state of Assam, the BJP is ruling under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the projects worth Rs 3,400 crore at a ceremony held in the state's Guwahati city.
  • He inaugurated the AIIMS Hospital in Guwahati, built at a cost of Rs 1,123 crore. It is the first AIIMS hospital in the Northeast. He also inaugurated newly constructed medical colleges in Nalbari, Nagaon and Gogarajhar in Assam. Also Prime Minister Modi laid the foundation stone for various projects worth Rs.14,300 crore.
UAE to give Rs 8000 crore to Pakistan
  • Pakistan is stuck in severe fiscal deficit. Food prices have skyrocketed there. The World Bank has imposed various restrictions on lending. Due to this, Pakistan asked the United Arab Emirates for help.
  • Subsequently, the United Arab Emirates has provided financial assistance of Rs.8 thousand crores. Pakistan Finance Minister Ishaq Dar confirmed this. Already, the United Arab Emirates had given a loan of Rs 16,000 crore to Pakistan in January last year to meet World Bank restrictions. Now the helping hand is extended again.
Best Transgender Award for Veloor Aishwarya
  • Every year on Transgender Day, April 15, the government presents an award to honor them. The awardee will receive a check of Rs 1 lakh and a certificate of appreciation. Apart from being a role model for the society, Aishwarya, a transgender woman from Veloor district, has been creating awareness for the progress of transgender people for 22 years through her acting and theater. 
  • In recognition of her service, she was presented with the Best Transgender Award for the year 2023, a check of 1 lakh rupees and a certificate of appreciation yesterday. At the secretariat, Chief Minister Stalin presented.
High-level meeting on Sri Lanka's debt issues at International Monetary Fund (IMF)/World Bank (WB) meetings
  • Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman Nirmala Sitharaman participated in a high-level meeting on Sri Lanka's debt issues at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) - World Bank (WB) spring meetings in Washington D.C. today.
  • Finance Minister of Japan Mr. Suzuki Shunichi, Director General of the French Treasury Mr. Emmanuel Moulin and Finance Minister of Sri Lanka Mr. Shehan Semasinghe participated in this meeting. Sri Lanka's President and Finance Minister Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe participated in it through video
  • The objective of the event was to demonstrate multilateral cooperation in the debt restructuring process in joint lending with Sri Lanka. On the occasion, the Ministers announced the launch of the Debt Restructuring Negotiation Process on Sri Lanka under the three co-chairs of India, Japan and France to lead the integrated debt restructuring of Sri Lanka.
  • Union Finance Minister Mrs. Nirmala Sitharaman expressed India's commitment to support Sri Lanka in dealing with the current economic crisis. He stressed that a collaboration among creditors is important to ensure transparency and equality in treating all creditors in debt restructuring discussions.
Second meeting of G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors chaired by India
  • The second meeting of the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors was held on April 12 and 13 under the leadership of India ahead of the 2023 spring meetings of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund. Union Finance Minister Mrs. Nirmala Sitharaman and Reserve Bank of India Governor Mr. Shaktikanta Das presided over the meeting. 
  • About 350 delegates from G20 member countries, 13 special invitation countries and various international and regional organizations participated in it.
  • Sessions were held on topics including the global economy, international financial architecture, sustainable finance, financial sector, financial inclusion and international taxation. The purpose of the meeting was to review the progress of various committees as per the feedback and direction given by the Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors in February.
  • Members discussed global economic challenges including the war in Ukraine, food and energy insecurity, climate change, and recent risks to financial stability at the Global Economy and International Financial Framework session.
