• LIST OF BEST CITIES FOR WOMEN IN INDIA: It recently released a report on the Best Cities for Women in India. It analyzes the industry, social balance, security aspect, infrastructure etc. and based on its scores, a list of the best cities for women in India has been created.
• Diversity Digest presents various aspects of the study. Also, it presents an understanding between governments and organizations to harness the talents of women in the areas listed.
• The Best Cities for Women in India (TCWI) list ranks India's top 25 cities in two categories.
• One category includes cities with a population of more than one million and the other with a population of less than one million. The study analyzed a survey of 783 women from 111 cities in the regions based on different levels of social and industrial inclusion.
• With a population of over one million, the top 10 cities are dominated by South Indian cities. Chennai is at the top of it. It has scored 78.41 marks in terms of providing facilities to women. It is followed by Bangalore, Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Coimbatore and Madurai.
• Similarly, in the second category of cities with a population of less than one million, Tiruchirappalli is in the top 10 with 71.61. Vellore, Erode, Salem, Tirupur, Puducherry, Mangalore, Thiruvananthapuram and Belagavi are also in the list with the highest scores.
• Comparing the average scores of each region, the South region tops the list with an average score of 46.17, followed by the West region with a score of 41.13 as the safest and most empowering places for women.
• Kerala tops the state average which includes cities. Similarly, the three southern states of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka are among the top five states with the highest average. Also, eight Tamil Nadu cities are among the top 10 cities for women in India in both categories.
• In this list, the Indian capital Delhi is ranked 14th with a score of 41.36. Not surprisingly, the national capital did not feature in the top 10 cities for women, the survey report noted. Crimes against women have been recorded in the capital for the last few years and this is evident.
• It also said that several state capitals did not feature in the top 25 in both categories. The top 25 state/UT capitals are from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Delhi, Kerala, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Odisha.
• Of the 111 cities indexed, only 47 were found to be above the national average of 37.75. Nearly 58 percent of the cities in the study were below the national average.
