Union Government Award for Tamil Nadu Tourism

  • The Ministry of Tourism of the Union Government has launched the 'Swadesh Darshan' scheme with the objective of providing world-class infrastructure facilities at tourist destinations to provide rich tourist experience to the tourists and promote themed tourism tours. 
  • Under this scheme, tourist destinations in Tamil Nadu (Marina Beach and Besant Nagar Beach), Mamallapuram Beach, Rameswaram Beach, Kulasekarapatnam Beach and Kanyakumari Beach, Triveni Sangamam Beach, South Ritchie Beach, Manakudy Beach in Kanyakumari district have been selected. A fund allocation of Rs.73.13 crore has been made in this scheme.
  • Landscaping, installation of lighting facilities, tourist information centre, construction of public toilets, footpath facilities, footpath development, beach frontage development, rescue boats, beach cleaning machine, jet ski boat, land and water vehicle, 'Wi-Fi' are included in these beach tourist spots. Works such as wireless internet, installation of surveillance cameras, information boards, first aid facilities have been completed and are in use.
  • Under this scheme, Rs.12.74 crore has been allocated for all the works of Kanyakumari beach including beach front development works and the works have been completed. The beach front development works are very beneficial for the tourists visiting there to enjoy the beauty of the beach and relax. 
  • Currently, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India has organized a National Workshop on Integration and Public Private Sector Partnership on 28th and 29th. In this workshop, Union Tourism Minister Kishan Reddy received the award given to Tamil Nadu Tourism by Chief Secretary Tourism Government Chandramohan.
Appointment of members to Handmaids and Destitute Women Welfare Board
  • The Minister of Social Welfare and Women's Rights issued an announcement in the Tamil Nadu Assembly on 1.9.2021. In order to implement that announcement, it has been mandated to create a Handmaiden and Destitute Women Welfare Board with the Minister of Social Welfare Women's Rights as the Chairman and the Director of Social Welfare as the Member Secretary to ensure that handmaids, women abandoned by their husbands, frail women, helpless women and elderly women in Tamil Nadu live in a safe and dignified manner in the society.
  • Ex-officio members of this board are Social Welfare and Women's Rights Department Secretary, DMK. MP Dr. Kanimozhi NVN Somu, MLA. Varalakshmi, Additional Chief Secretary, Finance (or his representative), Additional Director of Police, Prevention of Crime against Women and Children, Managing Director of Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation, Director of Social Security Programs (Chennai), Managing Director of Tamil Nadu Women's Development Corporation (Chennai).
  • 14 persons were found eligible as non-executive members. Accordingly, an executive order is issued appointing 14 people including Shakti Masala Company Director Shanthi Duraisamy, Renuka Oliver and Revathi Alakarsamy as non-official members. The term of office of the ex-officio members of Handmaids and Destitute Women Welfare Board is 3 years.
The second meeting of G20 agricultural delegations began in Chandigarh
  • The second meeting of the G20 Agriculture Delegates started in Chandigarh (March 29, 2023). The meeting, which will be held for three days till 31st, is attended by representatives of G20 member countries, special invitee countries and international organizations.
