Arms procurement worth Rs 70,500 crore - Department of Defense approval
- The Defense Procurement Council approves the procurement of arms for the defense forces. In this case, the Defense Procurement Council headed by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh approved the plan to purchase weapons worth over Rs 70,500 crore under the Self-Reliance India Project.
- According to this, 307 modern artillery pieces (ATAGS) will be procured from the Army Research and Development Center (DRDO). Purchase of 200 BrahMos missiles for naval use, helicopters worth Rs 56,000 crore and electronic warfare equipment has also been approved.
- It has also approved the purchase of long-range missiles that can be used on the Air Force's Sukhai fighter jets. 2,71,538 crore procurement of military equipment during 2022-23 has been approved.
- Defense officials said that 98.9 percent of this will be purchased from Indian companies. The purchase has been approved amid the tense situation on the India-China border.
- ISRO has announced that it has successfully completed the testing of the cryogenic engine used in the Chandrayaan-3 programme. ISRO said the cryogenic engine heat test was carried out for a scheduled duration of 25 seconds at the ISRO Propulsion Complex's Advanced Test Center at Mahendragiri in Kanyakumari district on February 24.
- ISRO said that the acoustic and vibration tests of the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft have been successfully completed. The ongoing Chandrayaan 3 test, post-launch maneuverability, is said to be a critical phase of operations.
- ISRO chief Somnath had said that Chandrayaan three spacecraft are planned to be launched by the end of June. In this case, it is reported by the scientists that the test attempt is succeeding as planned by ISRO.
- ISRO director Somnath had already said that the Chandrayaan 3 project has been developed using modern technologies while the rover lander of the Chandrayaan 2 project exploded while reaching the moon's surface.
- Despite the failure of Chandrayaan-2's lander-rover combination, the orbiter is still hovering above the lunar surface, and the Chandrayaan-3 program is also said to be using the orbiter to conduct major science missions. It is informed by ISRO that it will be announced.
- India, France, USA, Australia and Japan are participating in the Joint Naval Combat Exercise La Perous 2023 which was held on March-13 and 14 in the Indian Ocean. This naval war exercise, which is held once in two years, has been conducted since 2019.
- In the 3rd year, India was represented by INS Sahayathri and INS Jyoti. HMAS Perth on behalf of the Australian Navy, FS Dixmute and FS Lal Fayette on behalf of the French Navy, J MSTF Susutsky on behalf of the Japanese Navy and USS Charleston on behalf of the United States participated in this joint war exercise. Apart from this, helicopters also took part in combat training.
- In this two-day exercise, sea surface warfare exercises, air defense exercises and helicopter operations were carried out. The exercise was designed to increase coordination between the navies of the Allies.
