Chennai Flood Risk Reduction Advisory Committee Final Report submitted to Chief Minister M.K.Stalin
  • The Chennai Flood Risk Mitigation Management Committee has been set up to find a permanent solution to rain and flood damage in Chennai and its suburbs, headed by Mr. Thirupukal was appointed. The team studied the measures to be taken to prevent rain water from stagnating in Chennai.
  • In this case, Advisory Committee Chairman Thirupugall submitted the final report to Chief Minister M.K.Stalin at the Chief Secretariat and explained the details of the report. Currently, we have given 365 recommendations under 11 categories including urban sewerage, urban planning, solid waste management, seasonal change, public participation.
Annual Report on Arms Exports, Imports - India tops in arms imports
  • The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, based in the Swedish capital Stockholm, has published its annual report on arms exports and imports. In 2022, the United States topped the list of countries that exported the most weapons internationally. 40% of the total arms exports are from USA alone.
  • In second place is Russia. 16% of arms are exported from that country. France 11%, China 5.2%, Germany 4.2%, Italy 3.8%, England 3.2%, Spain 2.6%, South Korea 2.4%, Israel 2.3% are next.
  • India tops the list of countries that have imported the most weapons. India alone imports 11% of the total arms imports from foreign countries. Russia is the top arms supplier to India with 45 percent. India imports 29% of its arms from France and 11% from the US.
  • India is importing more weapons due to threats from Pakistan and China. Due to this, since 1993, India has been the number one importer of international weapons. India's arms imports decreased by around 11% during 2018-22 as compared to 2013-17. The country's arms imports are gradually decreasing as domestic arms production is increasing.
  • Russia accounted for 64 percent of India's arms imports during 2013-17. According to the latest 2018-22 figures, India's Russian arms imports have come down to 45%. Saudi Arabia 9.6%, Qatar 6.4%, Australia 4.7%, China 4.6%, Egypt 4.5%, South Korea 3.7%, Pakistan 3.7%, Japan 3.5%, USA 2.7% are the countries that have imported the most weapons.
  • International arms exports and imports decreased by 5.1 percent. But because of the war in Ukraine, European countries' arms exports and imports have increased up to 47 percent. Ukraine has bought a lot of weapons from America and European countries. This is stated in it.
Asia's first woman driver to drive 'Vande Bharat' train
  • Surekha Yadav hails from Satara, Maharashtra. The 55-year-old holds the distinction of being Asia's first woman train driver.For this achievement, she has received various awards at the state and national levels. Surekha Yadav, who has 34 years of experience as a train driver, set a record by driving the Bharat train yesterday.

Inflation rate, based on overall price index, recorded at 3.85% in February 2023
  • The annual inflation rate (provisional) based on the All India Wholesale Price Index for the month of February 2023 was recorded at 3.85%. It was 4.73% in January 2023. Inflation rate decreased in February 2023 due to lower prices of crude oil and natural gas, food and non-food items, minerals, computer, electronic and optical products, chemical and chemical products, electrical appliances and motor vehicles etc.
