Appointment of Vice-Chancellors in two Tamil Nadu Universities
- Arumugam, 60, from Tiruvannamalai district, has been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Open University. He was working as Professor and Director of Physics Department in Trichy Bharathidasan University.
- Kala, 65, has been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of Mother Teresa Women's University, Kodaikanal. He belongs to Karur district. Karur was working as Honorary Professor at Kongu Arts and Science College.
- Governor Ravi gave the appointment order to both of them at the Governor's House. Both will hold the post of Vice-Chancellor for three years from the date of their inauguration.
- Union Home Minister Amit Shah is touring North Eastern states including Tripura, Manipur, Meghalaya. A 120-feet tall statue of the polo player has been erected at Marjing Polo Complex, Imphal East District, Manipur.
- Amit Shah yesterday unveiled the statue of a player sitting on a horse playing polo. State Chief Minister Bren Singh and many others participated in the event took. It is noted that Manipur is the birthplace of Polo. After that he inaugurated Surachandpur's first medical college.
- In Haryana, the 6th season of the Men's National Boxing Championship took place. A total of 386 players participated in 13 weight categories. In the final of the 63.5 kg weight category, Assam's Shiva Thapa and Railway team's Ankit Narwal clashed. The impressive six-time Asian medalist Shiva Thaba won 5-0 to clinch the gold medal.
- Then, in the final of the 57 kg weight category, Mohammad Hussamuddin of the Services team defeated Sachin of the Railways team, who won the World Youth Champion title in 2016, 4-1.
- Services' Narendra was declared the winner after Sagar, who won silver at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, pulled out of the +92kg final with an injury.
- In other weight category finals, Asatya Bishwamitra (51 kg), Sachin (54 kg), Akash (67 kg) and Sumit (75 kg) won gold medals.
- The 'reigning champion' Services team retained the overall champion title by bagging 10 medals including 6 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze in this series.
- The next two positions were taken by Railways (2 gold, 3 silver, 2 bronze) and Punjab (1 gold, 2 silver, 6 bronze) respectively.
