INS Vagir joined the submarine fleet
  • China is the leading country with the largest number of submarines in the world. The country has 74 submarines in its navy. The US has 69 submarines, Russia has 66, Japan and South Korea have 22 each.
  • India currently has 17 submarines. 2 of these submarines are nuclear attack capable. The Ministry of Defense is taking drastic measures to increase the number of submarines in the Indian Navy. 
  • The central government signed a contract with France's Naval Group to build 6 submarines at a cost of Rs 50,000 crore.
  • According to this, the submarines are being manufactured using French technology at Mazagan Shipyard in Mumbai. The first submarine, INS Kalvari, was inducted into the Navy in 2017. INS Ganderi in 2019, INS Karanj and INS Vela in 2021 were successively inducted into the Navy.
  • In this order, INS Vagir submarine was inducted into the navy yesterday. Navy Commander Harikumar commissioned the submarine to the nation at a ceremony held at the Mumbai Naval Base.

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the naming ceremony held in Andaman's capital Port Blair via video.
Ministry of AYUSH MoU with Tourism Development Corporation of India to promote medical tourism in India
  • The Ministry of AYUSH has signed an MoU with the Tourism Development Corporation of India to promote medical tourism in India in Ayurveda and other traditional medical systems. The MoU was signed by Dr. Shashi Ranjan Vidyarthi, Director, Ministry of AYUSH, and Mr. Pius Tiwari, Director (Trade and Marketing), Tourism Development Corporation of India.
  • According to the agreement, Ministry of AYUSH will provide training to officials of Tourism Development Corporation of India on medical tourism in Ayurveda and other traditional medical systems.
