Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Youth Festival

  • The Central Youth Welfare Department and Karnataka Government have jointly organized the 'National Youth Festival' from January 12 to 16.
  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today inaugurated the 26th National Youth Festival at Hoopali, Karnataka. Swami Vivekananda's birthday, January 12, is celebrated as National Youth Day to honor his principles and teachings.
  • Organized on this occasion, the theme of this youth festival was India, developed by the progressive youth.
  • Karnataka Governor Mr Dawar Chand Khelat, Chief Minister Mr Basavaraj Pommy, Union Ministers Mr Anurag Singh Thakur, Mr Nisit Bramanik and Karnataka State Ministers were present in this event.
Chief Minister M.K.Stal's separate resolution to implement the Sethu Samudra Project in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly

Art Festival for Students 2022 - 2023
  • On behalf of the Tamil Nadu Department of School Education, Art Festival-2022-23 competitions for students studying in government schools from 6th to 12th standard were conducted across Tamil Nadu in the months of November and December. 206 artistic competitions including music, dance and painting were held at school, local, district and state level.
  • 28 lakh 53,882 students from 13,210 government schools participated in these competitions. Out of which 1,759 candidates have won the state finals. In this case, the awarding ceremony for the state level winners of the art festival was held at the Nehru Indoor Stadium, Chennai.
  • Chief Minister M.K.Stalin, who attended as a special guest, presented the awards of the art festival competitions to the students. He also honored the 4 students who stood first in the competitions with the 'Kaliyarasan' award and the 4 female students with the 'Kaliyarasi' award.
  • Apart from this, Coimbatore, Salem and Pudukottai districts occupied the top 3 positions in terms of student success rate. Vellore district was given a special prize for having the highest number of participants.
  • Ministers A. Chakrapani, P. K. Shekharbabu, M. Subramanian, Udayanidhi Stalin, V. Senthil Balaji, K. Senji Masthan, Chief Secretary V. Retail price inflation eased to 5.72 percent
  • Last December, retail price inflation fell to a one-year low of 5.72 percent. The main reason for this is low food prices. In November last year, retail price inflation was 5.88 percent. It was 5.66 percent in December 2021. 
  • In the food category last December, inflation decreased to 4.19 percent. In the previous November, it was 4.67 percent. Since early January last year, retail price inflation has remained above the Reserve Bank's target of 6 percent.
  • It has come down to 5.88 percent in November last year and 5.72 percent in December. The country's industrial production growth rate rose to 7.1 percent in November, after a decline in October last year.
  • According to the Office for National Statistics, manufacturing sector output growth was 6.1 per cent in November, mining sector output was 9.7 per cent and electricity generation growth was 12.7 per cent.
Prasannakumar takes over as new chairman of NLC
  • Prasannakumar, who served as the managing director of Gujarat State Power Company, has been announced as the new chairman of NLC by the Union Ministry of Coal.

13th India-US Ministerial Trade Policy Meeting
  • Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Mr. Piyush Goyal has visited the United States to participate in the 13th India-US Ministerial Trade Policy Meeting held on January 10 and 11, 2023 in Washington.
  • Prior to the delegation-level talks, the Minister of Trade and Industry interacted with US Trade Ambassador Ms. Catherine Thai.
  • The Ministers pointed out that the Trade Policy Meeting is important in improving bilateral economic relations and strengthening bilateral trade relations for the benefit of the working people of both the countries. A joint statement was issued after the meeting.
  • The Ministers also reviewed the activities of various working groups after the last trade policy meeting. Commerce and Industry Minister Mr. Piyush Goyal also held talks with US Secretary of Commerce Mr. Gina Raimondo. Also, he discussed with various leading industry leaders.
FSSAI decision to set standards for basmati rice for first time in India effective from 1st August 2023
  • For the first time in the country, the Food Safety and Quality Commission of India has come forward to set the standard for Basmati Raji. Food quality and safety rules have been amended for this purpose.
  • According to this rule, only basmati rice with natural aroma is accepted. At the same time artificial colouring, polishing and artificial fragrance are not allowed. Targets have also been set for other characteristics of basmati rice including average size, maximum moisture content allowed.
  • Basmati rice has been graded to meet the expectations of domestic and international consumers to bring transparency in the Basmati trade.
  • Basmati rice, the primary type of rice grown in the Himalayas of India, is important in its size. Apart from that, the crispness, unique aroma and taste are the factors that make this rice popular. Due to the quality of basmati rice, India occupies two-thirds of the basmati rice consumed in the world.
  • FSSAI has proposed to set standards for Basmati rice for distribution of quality traditional Basmati rice in domestic and export markets.
  • In this regard, the factors determining the quality are to be formulated after conducting detailed consultation with various parties including the various departments of the government and stakeholders.
India Post and Indian Railways jointly launched a joint parcel delivery system
  • India Post and Indian Railways jointly launched a joint parcel delivery system. Accordingly, the parcel weighing more than 35 kg will be picked up from the customer's location and sent to the railway station.
  • Then, from the railway station where the parcel has arrived, the Indian Post Department is going to deliver it to the customer's location. 3rd party insurance is mandatory for customers availing this joint parcel delivery service at reasonable charges.
