21 Name of Paramveer Chakra awardees for Andaman and Nicobar Islands

  • Andaman and Nicobar Islands have 21 uninhabited islands. The central government decided to name the Paramveer Chakra awardees in the army for these.
  • The Paramveer Chakra Award is given to soldiers who die in battle with valor. An uninhabited island 'INAN370' in the north and central Andamans is named after Major Somnath Sharma.
  • Henceforth the island will be known as 'Somnath Deep'. He was the first recipient of the Paramvir Chakra Award.

Central government allocated Rs.10,790 crore to Tamil Nadu for installation of smart electricity meters
  • Tamil Nadu has 3.25 crore household power connections, 22.87 lakh agricultural power connections and 9.75 lakh cottage power connections. In this case, smart meters are going to be installed in all electricity connections across Tamil Nadu.
  • Under the Central Government's Streamlined Distribution Sector Scheme, a fund of Rs 3.03 lakh crore has been earmarked for installation of smart meters in 13 states of the country. Out of this, Rs.10,790 crore has been allocated to Tamil Nadu. In this, Rs.8,600 crore will be provided in the first phase.
