Tamil Nadu cabinet expansion for the first time

  • The Tamil Nadu cabinet was expanded for the first time yesterday. Departments of 10 ministers including I. Periyaswamy and Periyagaruppan have been changed.
  • Thiruvallikeni-Chepakkam Constituency MLA and DMK Youth Secretary Udhayanidhi, who has been sworn in as the 34th Minister in the Cabinet, has been assigned the Department of Youth Welfare and Sports Development and Special Project Implementation.
  • The Department of Special Project Implementation which was held by Chief Minister Stalin, Poverty Alleviation Schemes, Rural Credits which was looked after by KR Periya Karuppan, Youth Welfare and Sports Department which was held by Meiyanathan have been handed over to Udayanidhi Stalin.
  • Udayanidhi has been allotted 10th position in the Cabinet after Gold South. Thus, Udhayanidhi will sit in the first row in the Legislative Assembly.
  • KR Periyakaruppan has been assigned the Cooperatives Department which I. Periyaswamy was looking after and the Rural Development Department which he was looking after has been allotted to I. Periyaswamy.
  • Similarly, in addition to I. Periyasamy, Ex-Servicemen Welfare Minister Siva V. Meyyanathan and Statistics Finance Minister Palanivel Thiagarajan have been given.
  • The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA), which was held by Housing Minister S.Muthusamy, has been given to Charities Minister P.K.Sekarbabu.
  • Khadi and Village Industries Board, which was in addition to Handlooms Minister R. Gandhi, has been given to Backward Welfare Minister RS Rajakannappan.
  • Minister K. Ramachandran looked after the forest department has been assigned to M. Mathiventhan and the tourism department he was in charge of has been assigned to K. Ramachandran.

UN approved Global Nature Restoration Ganga Cleanup Project
  • The 15th Summit of the United Nations Biodiversity Conservation Organization will be held from the 7th to the 19th in Canada's Montreal province.
  • Representatives from 200 countries have participated in this. The summit, which is convened every two years, is currently underway after being postponed four times due to the spread of the Corona virus.
  • At this meeting, the UN recognized 10 initiatives to restore nature globally. India's Ganga Cleanliness Program is one of them.
  • 2,525 km from the Himalayas to the Bay of Bengal. The livelihood of 52 crore people living around the holy river Ganga and its tributaries will be protected and benefited by this project to clean up the long flowing holy river Ganga and its tributaries.
  • In this era of changing climate, the project promotes sustainable agriculture to protect biodiversity including endangered wildlife, river fish, turtles and otters from pollution and waste.
The collegium headed by Chief Justice Chandrachud recommended for the first time appointment of 5 judges to the Supreme Court.
  • There are a total of 34 posts of judges in the Supreme Court. Currently there are 28 judges and 6 posts are vacant. Following this, the collegium headed by Chief Justice TY Chandrachud has recommended 5 High Court judges for promotion as Supreme Court judges to fill the vacant posts.
  • Accordingly, the names of 5 judges namely Chief Justice of Rajasthan High Court Pankaj Mittal, Chief Justice of Patna High Court Sanjay Karol, Chief Justice of Manipur High Court PV Sanjay Kumar, Patna High Court Justice Asanuddin Amanullah and Allahabad High Court Judge Manoj Mishra have been recommended to the Central Government. .
  • If the Center approves the proposal, the number of Supreme Court judges will increase to 33. Only one seat will remain vacant. At the same time, it is noteworthy that 9 of the 28 judges in the Supreme Court are set to retire in 2023.
  • It is also noteworthy that this is the first recommendation sent to the Central Government after TY Chandrachud assumed office as the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.
Allocation of Rs.579.20 crore for Kindergarten Equipment Box Scheme for the five-year period 2021-22 to 2025-26
  • Under the Anganwadi and Nutrition 2.0 Skills Drive, an allocation of Rs.579.20 crore has been made for the five-year period 2021 – 2022 to 2025 -26 for the Nursery Care and Education/Pre-School Kits Scheme.
  • As on June 30, 2022, 3.03 crore children in the age group of 3 to 6 years are enrolled in pre-school care and education programs through Anganwadi centres.
  • The scheme aims to prepare children for school by teaching in Anganwadi centers and pre-school kindergartens. Play-based training, child-friendly approach development has been developed by the government for this scheme.
  • It also includes physical education, hygiene, machine development, language development and creativity. All over the country a study has been conducted on this and model action books have been developed.
  • Under the National Education Policy 2020, this scheme is implemented in all Anganwadi Centers to strengthen them. High-quality infrastructure, sports equipment, well-trained Anganwadi staff will enhance the teaching environment.
