- வெண்மைப் புரட்சிக்கு தலைமை தாங்கிய டாக்டர் வர்கீஸ் குரியன் பிறந்த தினத்தை முன்னிட்டு, அவரின் நினைவாக இந்தியா முழுவதும் தேசிய பால் தினம் அன்று (நவ.26) அனுசரிக்கப்படுகிறது.
- இந்தியாவின் பால்பண்ணைத் தொழிலை நாட்டின் மிகப்பெரிய தன்னிறைவுத் நிலையை நோக்கி உயர்த்திய 'Operation Flood'-ல் அவர் முக்கியப் பங்காற்றினார்.
- இந்திய பால் சங்கம் (IDA) எடுத்த முயற்சியின் பலனாக, 2014ஆம் முதல் இந்தியாவில் தேசிய பால் தினம் அனுசரிக்கப்படுகிறது. 2021-2022 இந்திய பொருளாதார ஆய்வின்படி, பால் உற்பத்தியில் இந்தியா முதலிடத்தில் உள்ளது.
- உலகளாவிய பால் உற்பத்தியில் 23 சதவீத பங்களிப்பை வழங்குகிறது. அதுமட்டுமின்றி, 8 கோடிக்கும் அதிகமான விவசாயிகளுக்கு நேரடியாக வேலைவாய்ப்பு அளித்து, தேசியப் பொருளாதாரத்திற்கு 5 சதவீத பங்களிப்பை வழங்கும் மிகப்பெரிய விவசாய உபபொருளாக பால்வளம் உள்ளது.
- இந்தியாவில் பால் உற்பத்தி ஆண்டுதோறும் 6.2 சதவீதம் என்ற அளவில் வளர்ச்சியடைந்துள்ளது. பால் உற்பத்தியில் இந்தியாவை தன்னிறைவு அடையச் செய்த டாக்டர் வர்கீஸ் குரியனின் முயற்சியால் இவை அனைத்தும் இன்று சாதிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன.
- அவரது யோசனை ஒவ்வொரு நபருக்கும் கிடைக்கும் பாலை இரட்டிப்பாக்கியது. 30 ஆண்டுகளில் பால் உற்பத்தியை நான்கு மடங்கு அதிகரித்துள்ளது. இந்தியாவில் பற்றாக்குறையாக இருந்த பசும்பாலுக்குப் பதிலாக எருமைப்பாலில் இருந்து பால் பவுடர் தயாரிக்கத் தொடங்கினார்.
- National Milk Day (Nov 26) is observed across India in honor of Dr. Varghese Kurian, who led the White Revolution, on his birth anniversary.
- He played a key role in 'Operation Flood' which took India's dairy industry towards the country's largest self-sufficiency level.
- National Milk Day has been observed in India since 2014 as a result of initiative taken by Indian Dairy Association (IDA). According to the Economic Survey of India 2021-2022, India is the number one producer of milk.
- It contributes 23 percent of global milk production. Apart from that, dairying is the largest agricultural component contributing 5 percent to the national economy, providing direct employment to more than 8 crore farmers.
- Milk production in India has grown at an annual rate of 6.2 percent. All this has been achieved today thanks to the efforts of Dr. Varghese Gurion who made India self-sufficient in milk production.
- His idea doubled the amount of milk available to each person. Milk production has quadrupled in 30 years. He started making milk powder from buffalo milk instead of cow's milk which was scarce in India.
