GSLV-3 rocket successfully launched

  • The rocket was launched from the second launch pad of the Satish Dhawan Space Research Center in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. The 24-hour countdown to the launch of the rocket began yesterday at 12.07 midnight.
  • Entirely indigenously manufactured, the GSLV-3 rocket weighs around 640 tons. It is a 3-stage rocket powered by solid, liquid and cryogenic engines.
  • For the first time in a commercial launch, an Indian rocket carries satellites weighing around 6 tonnes. According to this, for the first time, ISRO has launched 36 satellites of UK-based OneWeb. 
  • OneWeb is launching satellites to provide high-speed Internet service to countries around the world. In that way, this rocket has been launched with 36 satellites.
Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the Rojkar Mela
  • Last June, Prime Minister Modi conducted a review of human resources in central government departments and ministries. He directed the authorities to take steps to provide employment to 10 lakh people in the next 18 months.
  • Accordingly, necessary steps are being taken to fill the vacant posts in various departments. In this context, Prime Minister Modi yesterday inaugurated ``Rojkar Mela'', which aims to provide employment to 10 lakh people across the country.
  • In the first phase, 75,226 job orders were issued in various cities of the country simultaneously through video. 50 Central Ministers issued direct appointment orders to around 20,000 people. Others were sent by post and email.
  • They are selected through Union Public Service Selection Commission (UPSC), SSC and Railway Staff Board (RRB) among others.
State governments are banned from running 'TV' channels
  • In a statement sent by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to various departments of the Central Government, State Governments and Union Territory Administrations, it is said that the Central Telecommunication Regulatory Authority, 'TRAI', had given a recommendation in 2012. 
  • In this, it was mentioned that the government, the companies involved in joint venture with the private sector and the companies funded by the government should not be allowed to engage in television broadcasting services.
  • Central Government Departments, State Governments, Union Territory Administrations are prohibited from engaging in television broadcasting and related service distribution. If they have been involved in such activities so far, the concerned state governments and union territory administrations should absolve themselves from that activity by 31st December.
  • Broadcasting Operations If already engaged in such broadcasting operations, henceforth they shall be operated only under the control of Prasar Bharti. Some of the central government controlled broadcasting companies have already been brought under Prasar Bharti's control through contracts. According to Article 246 of the Constitution, only the Central Government can legislate on such matters.
Chairman appointed for Madurai AIIMS
  • Prime Minister Modi laid the foundation stone for AIIMS Madurai on January 27, 2019. It was then reported that the construction would be completed by September 2022. But this period has also passed.

  • Ramesh Ramachandran, Founder and Director, National Center for Sustainable Coastal Management, R. Sundarrajan, Coordinator, Friends of the Earth, Nirmala Raja, President, Ramco Social Services, are special members of the Executive Committee.
Chinese President Xi Jinping is being extended for the 3rd time
  • The 20th Congress of the Communist Party of China, held every five years, began last week in capital Beijing. It was expected at the time that the meeting would approve Xi Jinping's third term as president. Already, Xi Jinping is serving as the President of China for the second time.
  • With his 10-year term coming to an end, he was drafted into the Communist Party's powerful Central Committee, paving the way for a third term extension of another 5 years.
  • The 25-member committee will meet on Sunday (Oct 23) to appoint a seven-member standing committee to look after the country's governance. The standing committee will choose the party leader who will be the next president of the country. 
  • It is said that he has now been named to the Central Committee as the first step towards appointing Xi Jinping to that responsibility. This is the first time in Chinese history that a chancellor will be extended for the 3rd time.
