- உலக மூங்கில் அமைப்பின் முன்னாள் தலைவரான கமேஷ் சலாம் என்பவரால் உலக மூங்கில் தினம் நிறுவப்பட்டது. உலக மூங்கில் அமைப்பின் தலைமையகம் பெல்ஜியத்தின் ஆண்ட்வெர்ப் நகரில் அமைந்துள்ளது.
- 8வது உலக மூங்கில் மாநாடு 18 செப்டம்பர் 2009 அன்று பாங்காக்கில் நடைபெற்றது. எனவே இந்நாளில் உலக மூங்கில் அமைப்பு ஒவ்வொரு ஆண்டும் செப்டம்பர் 18ஆம் தேதியை உலக மூங்கில் தினமாகக் கடைப்பிடிப்பதாக அறிவித்தது.
- உலக மூங்கில் காங்கிரஸ், இயற்கை வளங்களின் பாதுகாப்பை அடைவதற்கும், உலகெங்கிலும் உள்ள பிராந்தியங்களில் புதிய தொழில்களுக்காக மூங்கில் புதிய சாகுபடியை மேம்படுத்துவதற்கும் இந்த நாளை ஏற்பாடு செய்தது.

- Every year 18th September is celebrated as World Bamboo Day. Bamboo is an evergreen plant that belongs to the Poaceae grass family. Bamboo is versatile and strong and can be easily grown.
- It is considered the fastest-growing woody plant on the earth. India is the world’s second-largest country in the cultivation of Bamboo. There are around 136 species of the bamboo present in India.
- Bamboo shoots are considered a food with good sources of nutrition. The bamboo grows well in hot to warm climatic conditions. Without any fertilizers, Bamboo can grow healthy.
- It is a highly sustainable material and the most environmentally friendly product for both residential and commercial uses. It can be used in several fields such as construction, medicine, crafts, and food.
History
- World Bamboo Day was recognized by the World Bamboo Organization in the year of 2009.
- World Bamboo Day was founded by Kamesh Salam who was the former president of the World Bamboo Organization. The World Bamboo Organization Headquarters was located in Antwerp, Belgium.
- The 8th World Bamboo Congress was held in Bangkok on 18th September 2009. So on this day, the World Bamboo Organization declared that every year the 18th of September is observed as World Bamboo Day.
- The World Bamboo Congress organized this day in order to achieve the protection of natural resources and to promote new cultivation of Bamboo for new industries in regions around the world.
Significance
- World Bamboo Day is organized to create awareness to conserve Bamboo and to promote the bamboo industry.
- Bamboo is known as ‘poor man’s timber’ because it is used in all aspects of life. The symbolic meaning of Bamboo is longevity due to its strength, flexibility, and growth.
- There is a belief that Bamboos are a very lucky plant and bring good luck. Bamboo can replant degraded lands into diverse habitats around the globe.
- Bamboo plants have a lifespan of 400 to 500 years. It is believed that it can give prosperity as it can survive in all weather.
