Extension of PMGKAY scheme of free food grains till December

  • Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Modi. This decision was taken in that meeting. This scheme has been extended in view of upcoming festive season, Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh elections.
  • Under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, 5 kg of wheat or rice will be provided free of cost to the poor under the National Food Security Act. According to this, 12.20 million tons of food grains will be provided to the people.
  • As on September 1, the government has 60.10 metric tonnes of food grains in stock, of which 10.82 metric tonnes is paddy. Currently, the paddy procurement season is set to begin from October and the government plans to procure 51.80 metric tonnes of rice this season.
  • As the Garib Kalyan scheme has been extended by 3 months, the central government will have time to calculate how much food grain it has. Only then can plans be made to extend other projects.
  • The central government has allocated Rs 2.07 lakh crore for food subsidy in the current fiscal year budget. The current extension of Garib Kalyan till April will cost an additional Rs 85,838 crore and the current extension till December will cost an additional Rs 44,762 crore. Overall, the expenditure for food subsidy is Rs 3.38 lakh crore in the current financial year alone.
Anil Chauhan has been appointed as the Commander-in-Chief of the Triforce
  • The post of Commander-in-Chief of the Tri-Army was created to enable the tri-armies of the Indian Army to work together. General Bipin Rawat assumed office as the country's first tri-army chief on January 1, 2020.
  • Bipin Rawat died in a helicopter accident near Coonoor in the Nilgiris district of Tamil Nadu on December 15 last year. Since then no one has been appointed to this post. General Manoj Mukund Naravane, who was appointed as the Chairman of the Tri-Army Command, was looking after this responsibility.
  • In this case, the Central Government has appointed retired Lieutenant General Anil Chauhan as the new Chief of Army Staff. He will also serve as Secretary of the Department of Military Affairs, the Ministry of Defense said.
4% dearness hike for central government employees
  • The Union Cabinet meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In which various decisions were approved. In particular, to compensate for the rise in prices, the Central Government employees and pensioners were approved for increased gratuity.
  • Accordingly, 4 percent discount has been given. It has been increased to 38 percent from the existing 34 percent for central government employees and pensioners. This rate hike is effective from July 1. These arrears will be paid along with the next salary. Notably, this is the 3rd rate hike in a year.
Chief Minister Stalin inaugurates new facilities in deed registration department
  • In Tamil Nadu, sub-registrars are not yet empowered to cancel fraudulently registered documents. Victims had to approach the courts to cancel the documents. To avoid this, the Registration Act has been amended to empower the Registration Department to cancel the registered documents on the basis of fake documents, impersonation etc. This amendment has come into effect.
  • Chief Minister Stalin issued orders to the effect that under the Act, the fraudulent registrations were canceled and the five real property owners were affected. 
The cabinet has approved the agreement to share 153 cubic meters of water from the common boundary of Kushiara river
  • The Union Cabinet has approved an agreement to share water at the rate of 153 cubic feet per second from the common boundary of the Kushiara river. The MoU was signed on September-6, 2022 between Union Ministry of Water Resources and Bangladesh Ministry of Water Resources.
  • The agreement stipulates that the Assam state government will draw 153 cubic feet of water per second from the common catchment of the Kushiara River during the dry season (November 1 to May 31).
  • A Joint Monitoring Committee will be set up on behalf of both the countries to monitor the sharing of water between the two sides during the drought period.

The Union Cabinet was briefed on the progress made under the National Health Mission 2020-21
  • The Center on the progress made under the National Health Mission during the financial year 2020-21, including increasing decline in Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR), Infant Mortality Rate (IMR), Under 5 Birth Rate (U5MR), Total Fertilization Rate (TFR) The Cabinet was informed.
  • The progress made in programs for various diseases like tuberculosis, malaria, dengue, leprosy, jaundice etc. was also highlighted. Total expenditure incurred on these: Rs.27,989.00 crore (Central Government share)
  • Targets by 2025 - Reduction in MMR from 113 to 90, reduction in IMR from 32 to 23, reduction in U5MR from 36 to 23, prolongation of DFR to 2.1, complete elimination of TB from the country by 2025
Cabinet approves renovation of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminal of New Delhi, Ahmedabad Railway Stations and Mumbai Railway Station
  • New Delhi, Ahmedabad Railway Stations and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminal of Mumbai Railway Station for around Rs. The Union Cabinet has approved the Indian Railways proposal to restructure at a cost of Rs 10,000 crore.
  • Today's decision by the Cabinet has paved the way for the renovation of railway stations. 199 stations are under renovation. Out of these 47 stations have published contract points. Work is progressing rapidly in 32 stations.
A memorandum of understanding was signed between the International Solar Alliance and the International Civil Aviation Organization
  • A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the International Solar Alliance and the organization at the International Civil Aviation Organization's 42nd Intersessional Event in Montreal on 26 September 2022.
  • The event was presided over by the Minister of Civil Aviation of India, Mr. Jyotiraditya M Scindia, the Minister of Transport of France, Mr. Monsieur Clement Beaune, and the President of the International Civil Aviation Organization, Mr. Salvador Ciachidano.
  • The agreement was signed by International Civil Aviation Organization Secretary General Mr Juan Carlos Salazar and International Solar Alliance Chief Executive Mr Joshua Wickliffe.
  • Union Minister Mr. Jyotiraditya M Scindia expressed his views on this agreement during a meeting with the President of the International Civil Aviation Organization during his visit in May 2022. This concept has been accepted and an MoU has now been signed.
  • The International Solar Alliance comprises 121 countries and 32 partner organizations, including several UN bodies. The alliance aims to use solar energy efficiently to reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
  • The alliance strives to provide member countries with low-cost, easily adaptable devices for renewable energy use.
INS Sunaina participated in Combined Fleet exercise in Seychelles
  • 2022 INS Sunaina participated in the annual Maritime Forces exercise conducted by the Combined Navies in Seychelles from 24 to 27 September. Vice Admiral Brad Cooper of the US Central Fleet welcomed the Indian Navy for the exercise. An added highlight is that this is the first time an Indian Navy ship is participating in a Combined Fleet exercise.
  • As part of this exercise in which navies of all nations participated, a maritime domain awareness exercise was also conducted by the Indian Navy. A demonstration on search and seizure by boat was also given on board HMS Montrose, led by Seychelles naval personnel, with the support of the Indian Navy team.

  • The India Exhibition Center and Institute received the National Tourism Award for Best Standalone Convention Center 2018-19 during the National Tourism Awards 2022 held in New Delhi on September 27, 2022.
  • Mr. Rajesh Kumar, Chairman, Exhibition Corporation of India, Mr. Sudeep Sarkar, Chief Executive Officer, received the award from the Vice President, Mr. Jagadeep Dhankar.
