Addition of anticancer drugs to the essential drug list
- Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya released the revised National Essential Medicines List for the year 2022 yesterday. A total of 384 drugs are included in this list. Newly, 34 drugs have been added.
- Cancer drugs and anti-infectives like 'ivermectin, mubrocin' are included. At the same time, 26 drugs including 'ranitidine, sucralfate, erythromycin' have been removed from the list. These are said to have been removed from the list due to the availability of much cheaper alternatives.
- Medicines given for stomach related problems like 'Randak, Gentak' have also been removed. The problem of these drugs causing cancer as a side effect has been raised in many countries. These have since been removed from the list.
- The presidential election was held in the East African country of Kenya on August 9. In this, William Rudo won by a narrow margin over opposition candidate Raila Odinga. Raila's appeal against this in the Supreme Court of Kenya was dismissed last week. Following this, Rudo was sworn in as the 5th President of Kenya.
- Madras High Court Chief Justice Munishwarnath Bhandari has retired. Subsequently, the President had ordered the appointment of Senior High Court Judge Duraisamy as the Chief Justice.
- Accordingly, Justice Duraisamy assumed charge as the Chief Justice. In the Chief Justice's courtroom, along with Justice Sundarmohan, the Chief Justice heard cases including public interest cases.
- Justice Duraisamy, who served as the Chief Justice even when the previous Chief Justice Sanjiv Banerjee was transferred, has now assumed the charge of the Chief Justice for the second time. It is noted that he will retire on September 21.
- Nanjarayan pond near Oothukuli in Tirupur district has been declared as the 17th bird sanctuary of Tamil Nadu and the Government of Tamil Nadu has issued an order. About 181 species of birds from the country and abroad visit the water bodies adjacent to Uthukuli every year.
- Domestic birds such as yellow-nosed stork, brown stork, red stork, great crane, medium-sized crane, lesser crane, unni crane, mother-of-pearl and foreign birds such as plover, blue heron, needle-tailed duck, sandpiper, marsh sandpiper visit here every year.

- The 6th exercise of the Japan-India Maritime Exercise-GMEX 2022 was conducted on September 11 in the Bay of Bengal.
