Niti Aayog Executive Committee meeting

  • The executive committee meeting of Niti Aayog, which provides advice to the central government, was held in New Delhi. In this, the chief ministers of 23 states, three lieutenant governors, two union territory administrators and central ministers participated.
  • Telangana Chief Minister and Telangana Rashtriya Samithi President Chandrasekhara Rao, Bihar Chief Minister and United Janata Dal President Nitish Kumar did not participate.Four major issues were discussed in the meeting.
  • Achieving self-reliance in agricultural production including alternative crops and pulses and oilseeds, introduction of new national policy in school education, introduction of new national education policy in higher education, urban administration were discussed. Army Minister Rajnath Singh was the coordinator and led the conference.
Commonwealth Games - India won 5 gold medals in one day
  • The 22nd Commonwealth Games are being held in Birmingham, England. In this, Amit Bangal represented India in the men's 51 kg flyweight boxing competition. He unsettled England's Kieron Macdonald in the final round with aggressive punches from the start. In the end, he won the gold with a score of 5-0.
  • India's Neethu Kangas takes on England's Tammy Jade in the women's 48kg middleweight boxing final. In the match, Neethu put in a fine performance to pull the English player back. In the end, Neethu Kangas won the gold with a score of 5-0.
  • India's Eldas Pal won the gold medal in the triple jump in athletics by jumping 17 points 03 meters. Another Indian athlete, Abdul Abubakar, cleared 17.02m to clinch the silver medal. As a result, India won a double medal in the triple jump competition. Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu's Pravin Chitravel missed out on a bronze medal in the tournament.
  • India vs New Zealand in third place match in Commonwealth Women's Hockey Series. India were leading 1-0 in this match, but New Zealand scored a reply in the last minute to equalise. So a shoot-out was followed to decide the winner. In this, the Indian women's team won the bronze medal with a score of 2-1.
  • India's Anu Rani clinches bronze medal in women's javelin. He threw the javelin 60 meters and won the medal. India's Sandeep Kumar finished third and won bronze in the men's 10,000m walk.
  • World champion Nikat Zareen fielded in the women's 50kg light flyweight boxing event. India's young star Zareen faced Northern Ireland's Carly McNall in the final round. Nikat Zareen, who displayed an aggressive performance, won the gold medal with a score of 5-0.
  • India's Sarath Kamal and Sreeja Akulla won the mixed doubles gold in table tennis. Indian team won the silver medal in the Commonwealth Women's Cricket Final. In the final against Australia, the team won the toss and elected to bat. At the end of 20 overs, the Australian team scored 161 runs for the loss of 8 wickets. Then the Indian team, which entered the field, scored 152 runs in 19.3 overs and lost. Australia won by 9 runs.
BJP candidate Jagdeep Dhankar won the Vice President election
  • BJP-led NDA candidate Jagadeep Dhankar has won the vice-presidential election. However, former senior Congress leader Margaret Alva was fielded as the candidate on behalf of the opposition parties.
  • However, as expected, Thankar won by a landslide with 528 votes. This is 74 percent of the total votes. Margaret Alva got just 182 votes (26 percent). This is less than the number of votes an opposition candidate got in the last election. 
  • Venkaiah Naidu got 516 votes (68 percent) for the ruling BJP in the last vice-presidential election. Opposition candidate Gopalkrishna Gandhi who contested against him got 244 votes (32 percent). Margaret Alva, the candidate of opposition parties, got 6 percent less votes than that.
Vorkovich elected as FIDE president: Anand becomes vice-president
  • The election for the International Chess Federation (FIDE) administrators was held in Chennai. In this, Arkady Vorkovich from Russia was elected for the 2nd time. He got a total of 157 votes. His opponent, Grand Master from Ukraine, Andriy Parishbolts, got just 16 votes.
  • Another presidential candidate, Bachar Quadli of France, withdrew before voting began. Viswanathan Anand, a 5-time world champion, became the vice-president.
Tamil Nadu woman scientist Kalachelvi appointed as CSIR chief director
  • N. Kalachelvi is the Director of Central Electrochemical Research Center - CSIR, Karaikudi. He has made many contributions in the field of lithium iron batteries. Shekhar Mande, who was the director-general of CSIR, retired last April. Rajesh Gokhale, Secretary of Biotechnology Department, was additionally looking after the leadership.
  • In this case, N. Kalachelvi has been appointed as the Director General of CSIR. He will hold this post for 2 years, the Union Personnel Ministry said. Apart from this, he will also look after the responsibility of the Secretary of the Department of Science and Industrial Research.
Gallo India Scheme - Rs 33 crore for Tamil Nadu, maximum Rs 608.37 crore for Gujarat
  • The Central Sports Department has earmarked funds for the development of sports infrastructure of states in India under the Gallow India programme. 2754.28 crore rupees have been allotted to about 33 states. Andaman and Nicobar Islands - 7.23 crore, Andhra Pradesh - 33.80 crore.
  • Similarly, Arunachal Pradesh - 183.72 crore, Assam - 47.68 crore, Bihar - 50.83 crore, Chhattisgarh - 20.65 crore, Delhi - 89.36 crore, Goa - 19.10 crore, Gujarat - 608.37 crore, Haryana - 88.89 crore, Himachal Pradesh - 38.10 crore, Jammu and Kashmir - 27.89 crore, Jharkhand - 10.38 crore, Karnataka - 128.52 crore, Kerala - 62.74 crore, Ladakh - 14.28 crore, Lakshadweep - 9.00 crore, Madhya Pradesh - 85.64 crore, Maharashtra - 110.80 crore.
  • Manipur - 80.45 crore, Meghalaya - 28.00 crore, Mizoram - 39.00 crore, Nagaland - 45.00 crore, Odisha - 28.00 crore, Puducherry - 16.02 crore, Punjab - 93.71 crore, Rajasthan - 112.26 crore, Sikkim - 25.83 crore, Tamil Nadu - 33.00 crore, Telangana - 24.11 crores, Tripura - 38.35 crores, Uttar Pradesh - 503.02 crores, Uttarakhand - 23.78 crores, West Bengal - 26.77 crores, a total of 27,54.28 crores has been allotted to the Central Sports Department.
India-US joint military exercise on Uttarakhand border
  • India-US army to conduct joint military exercise in Uttarakhand state border region. The military exercise will be held in Ali, Uttarakhand. This joint military exercise will be conducted under the name of X Youth Abias 2022.
  • X Youth Abias is an annual India-US joint military exercise. The 18th edition of X Youth Abias is currently underway. X Youth Abias-17th edition was held in October last year under the name X Youth Abias 2021 at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska (USA). 
  • In its inaugural ceremony, the national flags of both the countries were hoisted and the national anthems of the two countries 'Jana Gana Mana' and 'The Star Spangled Banner' were played.
  • The exercise was held as part of Indo-US military cooperation. An Indian contingent of 350 soldiers from the 7th Madras Infantry Battalion and 350 American soldiers from the First Squadron (Airborne) participated in it.
