Monkeypox Name Changed
- The World Health Organization has changed the names of the subspecies of monkey measles from 'Congo Basin, South African Clade' to 'Clade 1, Clade 2'.
- Interim Director of the African Center for Disease Prevention and Control, Ahmed Akwele (pictured), who welcomed the name change, said, 'The use of the name Congo and South Africa for the pests was an insult to those countries'.
- Council President M. Appavu will participate as a representative of the Tamil Nadu branch in the 65th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference to be held in Halifax, Canada from 22nd to 26th. Assembly Secretary Srinivasan also attends the meetings of this conference.
- The Vietnam-India Bilateral Military Exercise (WINBAX) has been underway since August 1 at Chandimandir, Haryana. The exercise showcased the tools developed under Make in India and Self Reliance India to help rescue people in times of calamity.
- The exercise was aimed at the operation of Army Engineer and Medical Teams in UN Peacekeeping Operations. This is the first military exercise conducted by Vietnam's military with a foreign country. The soldiers of both countries were taught theoretical and practical classes.
- The closing ceremony of the exercise was attended by several officials including Ambassador of Vietnam to India Mr. Pham Sanh Chao, Chief of Army Staff Western Region Lt. Gen. Nav Kumar Khanduri. It is worth noting that the next Winpacks exercise will be held in Vietnam in 2023.
- The Uthra Shakti bilateral air exercise between the Indian Air Force and the Royal Malaysian Air Force concluded on August 16 at Kuantan Air Base, Malaysia. The four-day exercise saw the two Air Forces jointly engage in a complex air strike exercise. A great deal of war tactics were revealed from both sides.
- The UTRA Shakti exercise enabled the two Air Forces to share their best combat capabilities. At the closing ceremony of the exercise, 7 Sukhoi-30M KI & Sukhoi-30MKM fighter jets took to the skies. Next, the Indian Air Force crew will participate in the Pitch Black-22 flight exercise to be held in Darwin, Australia.
