Rajya Sabha elections - 41 candidates from 11 states elected unopposed

  • Elections for the 57 vacant Rajya Sabha MP posts from 15 states across the country will be held on the 10th. The last day for withdrawal of candidates in this election was announced yesterday. 
  • Eleven candidates from Uttar Pradesh, six from Tamil Nadu, five from Bihar, four from Andhra Pradesh, three each from Madhya Pradesh and Odisha, two each from Chhattisgarh, Punjab, Telangana and Jharkhand had filed nominations from Uttarakhand.
  • Eleven of them have been declared uncontested as no one else has filed nominations against them.
  • Among them were P Chidambaram of the Congress, Rajiv Shukla, Sumitra Valmiki of the BJP, Kavita Patidar, former Congress leader Kapil Sibal, Misha Bharathi of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Jayant Chaudhary, who were elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha.

9 permanent judges of the High Court
  • Chandrasekaran, Sivagyanam, Ilangovan, Anandi, Kannammal, Sathikumar, Sukumara Group, Murali Shankar, Manjula and Tamil Selvi, who served as district judges in December 2020, have been appointed as additional judges in the Chennai High Court.
Appointment of 2 New Judges to the High Court - Approval by the President

P.F. Reduction of interest rate to 8.1 percent

Name change of Turkey - UN approval
  • Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has called on the Turkish government to change its name to Turkey in December last year. So the Turkish government demanded that the country change its name to the United Nations.

‘E-Sanjeevani’, a free telemedicine service of the Central Government, is integrated with the Ayushman Bharat Digital Movement of the National Health Authority
  • The National Health Commission has announced that it has successfully integrated the e-Sanjeevani project with the Ayushman Bharat Digital Movement.
  • This integration facilitates the current users of e-Sanjeevani, the telemedicine service of the Union Ministry of Health, to easily create and use the AYUSHMAN BHARAT Health Account, and to maintain follow-up recommendations for treatment and test details already obtained.
  • The e-Sanjeevani project also ensures the availability of medical advice and follow-up treatment as users are able to share their health documents with them.
