Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray resigns

• Maharashtra is governed by Shiv Sena in an alliance of Nationalist Congress and Congress parties. Uddhav Thackeray is the Chief Minister. This coalition government has been ruling for the last two and a half years. In this case, many Shiv Sena MLAs have come out against Uddhav Thackeray on the last 20 days.
• The disgruntled MLAs are mobilizing under the leadership of Shiv Sena chief minister Eknath Shinde. They are insisting to form government in alliance with Bharatiya Janata Party.
• In this case, the Governor issued an order to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to prove his majority in the Assembly today. The Shiv Sena filed a case in the Supreme Court challenging the Governor's order. The Supreme Court allowed the trust vote to be held as per the Governor's order.
• Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray tendered his resignation shortly after the Supreme Court's order. He wrote to the governor that he did not want to face the trust vote in the assembly and also sent his resignation letter. The Governor also accepted his resignation letter.

QS Ranking List of Best Cities for Students

• Quackquarley Symonds, a company from the European country of Britain, QS, conducts annual international research and publishes a list of the best universities and the best educational cities for international students.
• QS has released this year's list of the best cities for international students. Out of a total of 140 cities, four cities in India have featured in this list. Maharashtra's capital Mumbai is ranked 103rd, Karnataka's capital Bengaluru is ranked 114th, Chennai is ranked 125th and New Delhi is ranked 129th.
• Last year, only Mumbai and Bengaluru cities were included in this. For the fourth year in a row, London has topped the list. The second place is occupied by Seoul, the capital of South Korea. According to the survey conducted in India in 2018-19, only 47 thousand 427 students from foreign countries are studying higher education. Steps have been taken to increase this to two lakh by 2023.

47th GST Council meeting held at Chandigarh

• During the last two days, various recommendations were discussed in the 47th GST Council meeting held in Chandigarh. In particular, the extension of compensation to the states to offset the losses incurred by the introduction of GST was discussed.
• According to the decision of the 47th meeting of the GST Council, the duty on certain goods will increase from July 18. Non-branded packaged dairy products and agricultural products have been brought under the 5 percent tax bracket.
• So far there has been no tax on these. Consequently, prices of lassi, buttermilk, curd, wheat flour, honey, waffles, pulses, unprocessed meat and fish will increase. A 12 percent tax will be levied on hotel rooms charged below Rs 1,000 per night and hospital rooms charged above Rs 5,000 per day.
• Duty on solar water heaters, tanned leather hiked from 5 percent to 12 percent. The duty has been increased to 18 percent on LEDs, lamps, pens, inks, blades, etc. The duty on motor pump and dairy farm machinery has also increased to 18 percent. The tax on e-waste will increase from 5 percent to 18 percent.

• The Oscar Academy from the United States annually selects the best film, actor, and actresses and awards them. This organization has selected 397 artists from 53 countries, excluding the United States, who have been serving the best in various sectors of the film industry, as members of the Oscar Academy.
• Surya, who has acted in several films including Jay Beam, has been selected as a member of the Oscar Academy. Surya is the first Tamil actor to be selected as a member of the Oscar Academy.
• Kajol, who has acted in Hindi and Tamil films, the directors of this year's Best Documentary film Writing with Fear, Ghosh, Thomas, the director of the Tibetan film Samsara, and Nalin have also been included as members.

The Central Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the computerization of start-up agricultural credit unions

• The decision was taken to increase the capacity of start-up agricultural credit societies and to bring transparency and accountability in its operations.  Furthermore, it has been reported that this will enable the start-up agricultural credit unions to carry out business activities and various services.
• It is proposed to computerize 63,000 start-up agricultural credit societies in the country within 5 years. 2516 crore has been allocated for this. The share of the central government is 1528 crore rupees. It is estimated that 13 crore farmers, including small and medium farmers, will benefit from these credit unions.

Success of high speed aircraft test of Abias

• DRDO The so-called Defense Research and Development Organization has designed the Abyss, a high-speed aircraft capable of destroying missiles in the air. Made entirely on domestic technology, the Abyss is capable of accurately striking enemy air targets.

• The meeting focused on the timely implementation of the Agnibad project and the salaries and allowances for Agni soldiers.

Union Cabinet approves unrestricted sale of domestically produced crude oil

• The Union Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the uncontrolled sale of domestically produced crude oil. It has been announced that this will come into effect from October 1. This decision of the Cabinet will ensure freedom of marketing for all research and production operators.
• The condition for sale of crude oil to the government or its designation or government agencies in production sharing agreements will be waived. All companies can now sell crude oil in the domestic market from their lands.
• Government revenues such as licenses and taxes will continue to be calculated on a uniform basis in all contracts. Export will not be allowed.
• This decision will encourage economic activity and further encourage investment in the oil and gas sector. The decision will categorize it as simplifying trade and taking action with transparency.

Cabinet approves to classify the Coalition for Disaster Recovery Framework (CDRI) as the ‘International Organization’ and to sign the Leadership Agreement with CDRI to grant exemptions, defenses and priorities under the UN (Priority & Defense) Act, 1947

• Prime Minister Mr. The Union Cabinet meeting, chaired by Narendra Modi, approved the classification of the Coalition for Disaster Recovery (CDRI) as the 'International Organization' and the signing of a Headquarters Agreement with CDRI to grant exemptions, defense and priorities under the UN (Priority & Defense) Act, 1947. .
• Since its inception, 31 countries, 6 international organizations and two private companies have become members of the CDRI. CDRI is increasing its membership by continuing to seek the membership of economically advanced countries

Union Cabinet approves long-term cooperation agreement between Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, International Renewable Energy Agency

• Prime Minister Mr. In a Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Narendra Modi, India's Ministry of New and Renewable Energy was briefed on the long-term cooperation agreement signed with the International Renewable Energy Agency. The agreement was signed in January 2022.
• The objective of this agreement is to drive ambition, leadership and know-how towards green energy transition towards renewable energy in India.
• The agreement will help India's energy transition efforts and help the world tackle climate change.
• The features of this agreement will help in achieving India's target of increasing installed non-fossil-fuel based power generation capacity to 500 GW by 2030.
• It will lead to knowledge sharing from India in scaling up renewable energy and clean energy technology
• It will support India's efforts for long-term energy planning
• Collaborate to strengthen the innovation environment in India
• Towards a low-cost zero-carbon state through green hydrogen deployment and encouraging development
• Hence, this lasting cooperation agreement will support India's energy transition efforts and help the world in tackling climate change.

Union Cabinet approves Memorandum of Understanding with Department of Science and Technology, Singapore Department of Commerce and Industry in the fields of Science, Technology and Innovation

• In the Union Cabinet meeting chaired by the Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi, the Memorandum of Understanding signed with the Union Department of Science and Technology and the Singapore Department of Trade and Industry in the fields of science, technology and innovation was approved. The MoU was signed in February 2022.
• IP through development of new technologies, manpower training, collaborations. In addition to providing a process that leads to manufacturing, it will help build innovation and entrepreneurship capacity in both countries.
• Agriculture and Food Science & Technology;
• Advanced manufacturing and engineering;
• green economy, energy, water, climate and natural resources;
• Data Science, Engineering Technologies;
• State-of-the-art equipment; And
• Health and Biotechnology
• The agreement will give priority to cooperation in areas of mutual interest that can accelerate progress in research, innovation and technology development, among others.
