Sri Lanka declares state of emergency again - President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa

  • Amid the severe economic crisis in Sri Lanka, protests are taking place across the country demanding the resignation of President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.
  • As a result, unions across the country went on a one-day strike. As a result, shops, offices and schools were closed. Employees in factories, banks and government offices went on strike outside the offices.
  • Accepting the call of the unions, a black flag was erected in the shops. Various protesters also wore black T-shirts. Traffic was completely paralyzed as transport and railway workers also went on strike. Thus, the people suffered greatly.

Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Tamil Nadu and the Center for Useful Governance of Indian States in the Presence of Chief Minister MK Stalin

Rs 7,183.42 crore has been released to 14 states as revenue shortfall grants
  • The Union Finance Ministry on Friday released Rs 7,183.42 crore to 14 states for the second tranche of the post-devolution revenue deficit subsidy. The grant was released on the recommendation of the 15th Finance Commission.
  • The Fifteenth Finance Commission has recommended a total of Rs 86,201 crore as post-devolution revenue deficit relief to 14 states, including Andhra Pradesh, Assam and Himachal Pradesh, for the 2022-23 financial year.
  • This amount is released in equal 12 month installments. Rs 14,366.84 crore has been released so far with the amount currently being released.
Ministry of Coal approves 50% concession in revenue sharing to promote gas production from coal
  • Federal Coal and Mining Minister Pralat Joshi has said that the Coal Ministry has approved a 50% concession in revenue sharing to encourage gas production from coal. Speaking at an investors' meeting in Mumbai, he called for exploring opportunities such as producing hydrogen from coal as a way to help India excel in the energy sector.
  • The investor meeting, co-organized by Coal India and FICCI, titled 'Coal Gas Production - Moving Ahead' was attended by Coal Minister Internet Minister Mr. Rao Saheb Patil Tanve, Coal Ministry Additional Secretary Mr. M. Nagaraju, Coal India Chairman Mr. Pramod Agarwal and businessmen.
