Murali Sreesanth wins gold at the Venezuela-Sania 2022 Athletics Championships in Athens, Greece

  • The Venezuela-Sania 2022 Athletic Meet was held in Athens, Greece. In the men's long jump, India's Murali Sreesanth won the gold medal in the 7.95m long jump. Jules Pommery (7.73m) of France won the silver and Ervonconate (7.71m) of France won the bronze.
  • Murali Sreesanth wins 2nd consecutive gold in Greece Murali Sreesanth won gold in the 8.31m long event at the International Athletics Championships in Galidia last week.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the BM Cars for Children program
  • On May 29 last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the 'BM Cares for Children' program to protect children who have lost their parents to the Corona epidemic. 
  • The purpose of the program is to provide integrated care for children who have lost a parent, adoptive parent or legal guardian by Corona. Accordingly, the affected children will be provided with the necessary education, medical care, shelter and food until they reach the age of 23 years.
  • Grants for schooling for children who have lost their parents to corona infection have been released from the BM Course program. A health insurance card was also issued under the BM Cars Passbook and the Ayushman Bharat scheme.
  • Loans will be provided under this scheme to children who want to pursue professional studies or higher education. Measures will also be taken to provide a monthly stipend of Rs. 4,000 for daily needs through other schemes during the period of higher studies (18 to 23 years). Rs 10 lakh cash will be given on completion of 23 years of age.
World Bank lends Rs 5,426 crore to Sri Lanka to meet immediate needs
  • Sri Lanka is facing an unprecedented economic crisis due to the misrule of the Rajapaksa family. It has gone bankrupt as it has not been able to repay the loans it has taken from the international community.
  • At the same time, the World Bank negotiated for more credit from organizations, including the International Monetary Fund, to address the situation. Sri Lankan Foreign Minister GL Peiris Peiris met with World Bank Manager Seo Kanda last week.
  • Kanda then promised to work with organizations including the Asian Development Bank, the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank and the United Nations. In this context, the World Bank has stated that Sri Lanka will provide a loan assistance of ₹ 5,426 crore to alleviate its severe economic crisis.
Guinness World Records for 492 feet high gigantic glass bridge
  • The bridge, which hangs 492 feet above the ground, is 2,073 feet long. The suspension bridge is located in the Son La region, northwest of Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam. The Government of Vietnam has built this huge glass bridge in collaboration with a French construction company.
  • The recently constructed bridge was opened to the public only a few weeks ago. A test run of an SUV was conducted on the bridge, which can carry up to 450 people at a time. The bridge is made of 40 mm thick glass. Construction of the Bagh Long Bridge began in early 2021.
  • The entire construction of the bridge was completed in almost a year and was released to visitors last month. The fare per person to travel on this bridge is about Rs 1,850 in Indian currency.
  • Previously, the 526 meter glass bridge in Guangdong, China boasted of being the longest glass bridge in the world. This new bridge has now surpassed the record of the China Bridge.
