Award for Indian Documentary at the Cannes International Film Festival

• At the 75th International Film Festival in Cannes, France, the Golden Eye Award was presented on Saturday for the documentary 'All That Breathes' directed by Indian director Shelanak Sen.
• The film is based on the story of two brothers, Nadeem and South, who hail from Delhi. This is the second award for India in the last 2 years at the Cannes Film Festival. Last year, Payal Kapadia's documentary 'A Night of Nothing' was honored with the same award.
• In addition, a special award was presented to Lithuanian director Mandas Guederavicius for the documentary 'Mariupolis 2'. It is noteworthy that Ava was killed in the recent Ukraine-Russia war.

Karunanidhi statue unveiled by Venkaiah Naidu in Chennai

• Vice President Venkaiah Naidu unveiled a bronze statue of Karunanidhi at a cost of Rs 1.70 crore at the Omanthurai Government Estate, Annasalai, Chennai.
• A 16-foot-tall statue of the late DMK leader and former chief minister Karunanidhi has been erected on behalf of the Tamil Nadu government at the Omanthurai Government Estate, Anna Road, Chennai, on the grounds of the Government Multipurpose High Treatment Hospital, two feet above the ground.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the world's first nano urea factory in Gujarat

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated the world's first nano urea plant at Kalol, Gandhinagar, Gujarat. One bag of granular in the plant contains 500 ml of urea equivalent. Nano urea is produced in the bottle. 
• The Prime Minister said transport costs would be reduced through the Nano Urea plant, which would benefit small farmers.

Jaljeevan Movement Achieves 50% Completion of Tasks

• With Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of providing safe drinking water to all rural households in the country, the country has set a record by providing piped drinking water to 50% of households in rural areas.
• Goa, Telangana, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu, Pondicherry and Haryana have already achieved 100% drinking water connection.
• The states of Punjab, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh and Bihar have completed over 90% of the work and are moving towards the status of ‘drinking water connection to all households’.
• The aim of the Jal Jeevan movement is to empower the Panchayat Raj organizations and involve the community in drinking water supply projects in order to realize Mahatma Gandhi's dream of 'Village Sovereignty'.
• More than 9.59 crore rural households in various States / Union Territories have been provided with piped drinking water connection. The women and girls who live in these houses are free from the misery of walking long distances in search of water in the scorching sun, rain and snow.
• The Ministry of Water Energy, in collaboration with the States / Union Territories, will ensure that all rural households have access to piped drinking water by 2024, the federal government's flagship project, the Jal Jeevan Project, which provides piped water to all households.
• When the Jal Jeevan movement was launched in 2019, only 3.23 households, or 17% of the rural population, had access to piped drinking water.
• However, as on 27.05.2022, in 108 districts, in 1,222 constituencies, 71,667 village panchayats and 1,51,171 villages have access to piped drinking water. All the houses in these villages are provided with piped drinking water connection.
