Tetras re-elected President of the World Health Organization

  • Tetras Adenom Capriasis, from Ethiopia, Africa, was sworn in as President of the World Health Organization in 2017. He was Ethiopia's Minister of Foreign Affairs and became the first African to become President of the World Health Organization.
  • Also, this is the first time a non-doctor has held the post. But, as no one contested, he was re-elected to the post for five years.
Rs 50,000 crore investment memorandum of understanding signed in Davos conference
  • Renew Power has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to invest Rs 50,000 crore in the renewable energy sector in Karnataka to provide employment to 30,000 people, in the presence of Chief Minister Basavaraj Doll at the World Economic Summit in Davos.
  • The two-day World Economic Forum was held in Davos, Switzerland. The Karnataka team led by Chief Minister Basavaraj Puppet participated. On the first day, a contract worth Rs 2,000 crore was signed with Lulu to build four shopping malls in Karnataka.
Sri Lanka seeks Rs 3,750 crore loan from India
  • Our neighbor Sri Lanka is in deep crisis due to the shortage of foreign exchange. At the Cabinet meeting, the Ministry of Energy approved a loan of Rs 3,750 crore from the Exim Bank of India.
  • This amount will be used to purchase petroleum products. The Sri Lankan government has already borrowed Rs 3,750 crore from the Exim Bank of India and Rs 1,500 crore from the State Bank of India.

Mr. KP Anand is Chief Accountant for Tamil Nadu and Puducherry
  • As the Chief Accountant for Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, Mr. KP Anand took charge. He joined the Audit and Accounting Service of India (IAAS) in 1996 and graduated from the Veterinary College, Chennai in 1994.
  • Prior to assuming this responsibility, he served as the Chief Accountant of Kerala, the Auditing Director General of the North Eastern Frontier Railways and the Chief Accountant of Assam. He has worked as Director (Finance) in Southern Electricity Supply Company, Andhra Pradesh.
