UN General Assembly convenes against Russia's war

  • This emergency UN General Assembly meeting was convened against the war in Russia. This is the 11th emergency meeting of the UN General Assembly in the history of the world. The meeting comes amid ongoing peace talks between Ukraine and Russia.
  • This is the second emergency meeting between Russia and Ukraine in the 77 - year history of the United Nations. Earlier in the day, an emergency meeting was held on the Crimea issue. At the meeting, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres sharply criticized Russia. The war in Ukraine must end immediately. Russia must respect international rules.

Matabi appointed SEBI chairman
  • Ajay Tyagi, who was the chairman of the Stock Exchange Regulatory Commission of India, ended his five-year term last February. He took over as Chairman of SEBI in March 2017 for a period of 3 years. After that, he received a 6-month extension until August 2020. Subsequently, his tenure was extended again for 18 months.
  • Following this, the Union government yesterday appointed Matabi Puri as its new chairman. This is the first time a woman has headed SEBI. His appointment was approved by the Union Cabinet.
  • He has been the Chairman of various committees in SEBI for over 30 years. Finally, he served as chairman of the Advisory Committee on Data Access and Privacy in the Securities Market.
Ukraine-Russia talks
  • Russia launched an offensive against Ukraine last Thursday. Russian ground forces infiltrated Ukraine, launching attacks with missiles, rocket-propelled grenades and Bo planes. In this context, Russia announced on Sunday that it was ready to hold talks with Ukraine.
  • Accordingly, negotiations began on the Belarusian border. On the Ukrainian side, a delegation led by its Ministry of Defense and on the Russian side, a delegation led by Adib Putin's adviser, took part in the talks.
  • At the meeting, the Ukrainian side called for the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine. After 5 hours of talks, the Russian side said that there was some opportunity to reach a consensus.

  • Ukraine's Prime Minister and Speaker of the European Parliament have signed an application to join the 27 - nation European Union. The application was taken to Brussels, where the European Union is headquartered, sources said.

  • The Solar Power Corporation (SECI) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (HPCL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on March 24 to realize the federal government's green energy objectives and carbon-balanced economic initiatives.
  • HPCL plans to diversify these sectors and undertake environmental and community initiatives in line with the federal government's goal of developing renewable energy capacity in the country and accelerating the transmission of electric vehicles.
The combined growth index of 8 key industries increased by 3.7 per cent in January
  • The consolidated growth index of eight major industries was 144.4 points last January. This is an increase of 3.7 per cent (provisional) over the January 2021 list. Growth in the coal, natural gas, refining, steel, cement and electricity industries was higher in January than in the same period last year.
  • The final growth rate of 8 key industries for the month of October 2021 has been changed to 8.7 percent. The growth rate of key industries was 11.6 per cent in 2021-22.
