PM inaugurates second campus of Chittaranjan National Cancer Medical Research Institute (CNCI) in Kolkata
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the second campus of the Chittaranjan National Cancer Research Institute (CNCI) in Kolkata with a video presentation.
  • The event was attended by the Chief Minister of West Bengal Ms. Mamata Banerjee, Union Ministers Dr. Mansuk Mandavia, Dr. Subhash Sarkar, Mr. Santhanu Thakur, Mr. John Birla and Mr. Nitish Brahmanik.

Preliminary Estimates Estimates of National Income for the Year 2021-2022
  • The National Statistics Office of the Ministry of Federal Statistics and Project Implementation has released the Preliminary Estimates of Annual Revenue for the Fiscal Year 2021-2022.
  • Real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for 2021-22 or Fixed Price Gross Domestic Product (GDP) at Rs. It is estimated to reach Rs 147.54 lakh crore.
  • Earlier it was Rs 135.13 lakh crore as per the provisional estimates for 2020-2021. GDP growth is projected to be 9.2 percent in 2021-2022. In 2020-2021 it was 7.3 per cent.
  • Based on current prices, GDP for 2021-2022 is estimated to reach Rs 232.15 lakh crore. According to provisional estimates for 2020-2021, it was Rs 197.46 lakh crore. Growth is expected to be 17.6 percent in 2021-22.
  • Personal Income and Other Details Reports 1 to 4 are provided. Volume extrapolation is a method of obtaining tax on fixed value goods which is taxed according to the number of growths. Tax on goods and services is calculated and the total tax amount is calculated.
Passage of the TNPSC Amendment Bill
  • Finance and Humanitarian Management Minister Palanivel Thiagarajan introduced a bill in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly.

India to overtake Japan in economy by 2030 - IHS
  • India is the sixth largest economy in the world. The United States, China, Japan, Germany and the United Kingdom are in the top five. However, India is projected to be the second largest economy in Asia by 2030.
  • According to IHS Markit, India will overtake Japan in the economy by 2030. This is said to be due to GDP. It is also forecast that India will grow rapidly economically globally in the coming decade.

13 bills were passed in the legislature
  • Amid the debate on the resolution thanking the Governor for his speech in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, Minister KN Nehru tabled bills relating to the formation of 6 new corporations viz., Tambaram, Kanchipuram, Sivakasi, Cuddalore, Kumbakonam and Karur.
  • Subsequently, Minister S. Muthusamy tabled a bill to increase the duration of project approval for land or building development in the Urban Planning Act from five to eight years. On the last day of the assembly session, Chief Minister MK Stalin tabled a bill to extend the Chennai Metropolitan Police Act to the newly launched Avadi and Tambaram cities.
  • Subsequently, Minister MRK Panneerselvam introduced the Tamil Nadu Agricultural Product Marketing Amendment Bill, Minister S. Raghupathi introduced the Tamil Nadu National Law University Amendment Bill and Minister Palanivel Thiagarajan introduced the Finance Allocation Bill.
Lifetime 'Cabinet' status for Goa 'Former' Chief
  • The BJP, led by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, is in power in Goa. He has already been the Speaker. He was elected to the Goa Assembly 50 years ago and continues to be an MLA.
  • Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has said that the Goa cabinet has decided to give him a lifetime 'cabinet' status as he has completed 50 years in the assembly.
27% reservation will go to other backward classes in medical course
  • The central government last year announced that the OBC would provide 27 per cent reservation for students and 10 per cent for the economically backward upper class for admission to medical degree courses.
  • The income ceiling for the economically backward sections was set at 8 lakh rupees. Some have filed lawsuits in the Supreme Court against this.
  • Of the All India quota for medical degree courses, 27 per cent will go to the OBC category. The announcement of a 10 per cent reservation for the economically backward will also go through.
  • These reservations are permissible under the Constitution. At the same time, the 10 per cent reservation for the economically backward can be observed only in the current academic year.
  • An order will be issued in the third week of March inquiring in detail about the income limit for obtaining this 10 per cent reservation. Thus the judges ruled.
Ministry of External Affairs - 'Tata Consultancy' Agreement
  • Tata Consultancy has entered into an agreement with the Ministry of External Affairs to provide better customer service under the 'Passport' service.

Appointment of first female judge to the Supreme Court in Pakistan
