Release of Tamil Nadu Telecommunication Infrastructure Policy to provide high speed internet connectivity in villages

  • The Government of Tamil Nadu has launched a new Telecommunication and Infrastructure Policy to increase mobile service in the villages and provide high speed internet facilities. The Government of Tamil Nadu is implementing the BharatNet and TamilNet projects to provide internet facilities in the villages.
  • In this context, the Government of Tamil Nadu has formulated a 'Tamil Nadu Telecommunication Infrastructure Policy' to enhance uninterrupted mobile service in rural areas, provide high speed internet access and provide high quality telecommunication and internet facilities to the public at low cost. The order was issued by Information and Communication Secretary Neeraj Mittal.
  • The policy covers various fees related to telecommunication facilities, including application and permitting system and grievance redressal facilities. In particular, this policy is designed to build a strong and secure sophisticated telecommunications network.
  • The purpose of this policy is to make telecommunication sites accessible to the public. The government has announced new fees for issuing a Right of Way permit called RoW. The Government of Tamil Nadu has also ordered the payment of a non-refundable fee of Rs.1000
  • Similarly, an application for installation of towers for mobile phones is required to pay a one-time non-refundable fee of Rs.10,000 per tower. The purpose of this policy is to make telecommunication sites accessible to the public.
Ananda Nageswaran appointed new Chief Economic Adviser
  • Dr. V. Ananda Nageswaran has been appointed as the Chief Economic Adviser (CEA) of the Central Ministry of Finance. Krishnamurthy Subramaniam, Chief Economic Adviser to the Union Finance Ministry, has been appointed to the post following the expiration of his term.
  • Ananda Nageswaran, who served as a part-time member of the Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Council from 2019 to 2021, holds a Master's degree from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad.
  • He subsequently completed his doctoral studies at the University of Massachusetts. Between 1994 and 2011 he played a number of leading roles in macroeconomic and capital market research for several private wealth management companies in Switzerland and Singapore.
Philippines buys India's BrahMos missile
  • The BrahMos missile can be used on all surfaces, such as submarines, warships, and aircraft. The Philippines has offered to buy this state-of-the-art missile from India. The Philippines has signed an agreement worth 28 trillion rupees. Accordingly, India is said to have developed and supplied BrahMos missiles capable of striking and destroying enemy ships.
'ALH MK3' type helicopters join the army
  • New ALH MK3 helicopters manufactured by Bangalore Hindustan Aeronautics have been formally added to the INS Utkrosh military base at Port Blair. 
  • It was received by Lieutenant General Ajay Singh of the Andaman-Nicobar Army. Hindustan Aeronautics has so far produced more than 300 ALH helicopters for the Indian Army. It is equipped with the latest ALH MK3 helicopter.

  • The Perth Scorchers - Sydney Sixers clash in the BPL Final in Melbourne. Sydney won the toss and elected to field. Batting first, Perth scored 171 for 6 in 20 overs. Batting next, Sydney lost by 79 runs in 16.2 overs for just 92 runs.

Israeli agricultural technical assistance to 150 villages
  • India and Israel have decided to further enhance cooperation in the field of agriculture. Accordingly, Israeli technical assistance is to be provided to 150 villages around the 29 Agricultural Skill Centers.
Memorandum of Understanding between Indian Navy and India Infoline Home Finance Limited
  • The Indian Navy Employment Agency (INBA) and India Infoline Home Finance Limited signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 27 January 2022.
  • The Memorandum of Understanding has been signed for the employment of ex-Marines in India Infoline Home Finance Limited.
  • The MoU was signed by Vice Admiral Sooraj Perry, Controller of Indian Navy Personnel Services and Mr. Monu Ratra, Executive Director and CEO, India Infoline Home Finance Limited.
  • India Infoline Home Finance Limited aims to provide veterans with opportunities based on their qualifications, experience and skills acquired during their service.
Construction of the first ship of the Submarine Support Ship Project begins in Kolkata
  • Construction of the first ship of the Submarine Support Ship (DSC) project began on 27 January 2022 at Titgar Wagons Limited in Kolkata. Representatives of the Indian Navy attended the event via video.
  • The contract for the purchase of five DSCs (yards 325 to 329) for the Indian Navy was signed on 21 February with Titgar Wagons Limited.
  • These ships will be hired by the Indian Navy for diving assistance, underwater repair, maintenance and safety work for ships in and around the port. Modern submarines will be fitted on ships.
  • All vital and ancillary equipment is sourced from domestic manufacturers and these ships add pride to the Ministry of Defense's Mac in India initiatives.
The detached Kukri warship was handed over to the Diu administration
  • INS Kukri (P49), the Indian Navy's first home-built missile warship, was handed over to the Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Damon & Diu management on 26 January 2022.
  • Rear Admiral Ajay Vinay Pave handed over the deported INS Kukri to Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Mr. Praful Patel, Administrator, Daman & Diu and Lakshadweep Union Territory.
Printing of New Security Lines on Rupee Banknotes - Launch of Nashik Rupee Printing Press and Devas Banknote Company
  • Under the modernization measures, the printing press of the Bank of India (SBMCIL) started printing new security lines on the banknote at the banknote printing press in Nashik and at the banknote printing press in Devas.
  • Mina Meena Swaroop, Special Secretary, Ministry of Finance, launched the printing of the new security lines on January 27 at the Rupee Note Printing Press in Nashik.
  • At the banknote printing press in Dewas, Mr. Sasang Saxena, Consultant, Department of Economic Affairs, made a visual presentation.
