- பாத்திமா ஷேக் இந்தியாவில் முதன்முதலாக தாழ்த்தப்பட்ட மற்றும் பழங்குடி பெண்களுக்கான கல்விநிலையம் தொடங்கியவர். இந்தியாவின் முதல் முஸ்லிம் பெண் ஆசிரியர்.
- இந்தியாவின் தலித் கல்விக்கு முதல்படி எடுத்து வைத்த பாத்திமா தமது நண்பர்களான ஜோதிராவ் புலே மற்றும் அவரது மனைவி சாவித்திரிபாய் புலே ஆகியோருடன் இணைந்து தலித் கல்விக்கு வித்திட்டவர்.
- பாத்திமா-சாவித்ரி இணைந்து தொடங்கிய அவர்களது பள்ளியில் பணியாற்றிய போது தொடர்ந்து உயர்சாதி வகுப்பினரால் மிரட்டப்பட்டும் ஊர்நீக்கம் செய்யப்பட்டும் துணைக்கு ஆளில்லாமல் ஊரைவிட்டு விரட்டப்பட்டனர்.
- விரட்டப்பட்டவர்களுக்கு அடைக்கலம் கொடுத்ததோடு தங்கள் வீட்டின் ஒரு பகுதியையே பள்ளி ஒன்றினை துவங்க இடமாகவும் தந்து பாடமும் கற்பித்தனர்.
- பாத்திமாவின் அண்ணன் உஸ்மான் ஷேக்கால் புனேயின் கன்ஜ் பேட் பகுதியில் உள்ள அவரது வீட்டில் தான் இந்தியாவில் தலித் குழந்தைகளுக்கான முதல் பெண்கள் பள்ளி தொடங்கபட்டது.
- வெறும் 9 மாணவிகளை கொண்டு ஆரம்பித்த அப்பள்ளிக்காக மாணவிகளை வரவழைக்க கோரி சாவித்ரி பூலே அவர்களோடு சேர்ந்து பாத்திமா ஷேக்கும் வீடு வீடாக போய் பெண்களை கல்விநிலையத்திற்கு அனுப்பி வைக்குமாறு கேட்டுக்கொண்டார்.
- அப்போதைய மக்கள் இவர்களுக்கு ஆதரவளிக்கவில்லை மாறாக அடுப்பூதும் பெண்களுக்கு படிப்பெதற்கு என கூறி வாசற்கதவினை முகத்தில் அறையப்பட்டு விரட்டப்பட்டனர். அந்தக்காலகட்டம் அப்படியானதாக இருந்தது.
- சாவித்ரியுடன் இணைந்து ஒரு தலித் - முஸ்லிம் கல்விச்சாலையை 1848ல் உருவாக்கினார், அதற்காக அவர்கள் செய்த தியாகம் அளப்பறியது, 1875ல் சர் சையது அஹமத் கான் அவர்களால் உருவாக்கப்பட்ட முஹம்மதன் ஆங்கிலோ ஓரியண்டல் கல்லூரி தான் பின்னாளில் புகழ்பெற்ற அலிகர் முஸ்லிம் பல்கலைக்கழகமாக உருவெடுத்தது,
- ஒரு முஸ்லிம் ஆணாக இருந்த சர்,சையது அஹமது கான் அவர்களுக்கு கிடைத்த அங்கீகாரம் , ஒடுக்கப்பட்ட சமுதாயத்தில் இருந்து வந்து பிற்படுத்தப்பட்டோர் நலனுக்காகவும் பெண் கல்விக்காகவும் போராடி முஸ்லிம் பெண்ணான ஷேக் பாத்திமாவிற்கு கிடைக்கப்பெறாமல் போனது வேதனை.
- சாதிக்கொடுமைக்கு எதிராக குரல் கொடுத்த பாத்திமா ஷேக் இந்திய வரலாற்றில் இருந்து முற்றிலுமாக மறைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளார். சுதந்திரம் அடையாத இந்தியாவில் 150 வருடங்களுக்கு முன்பாகவே பெண்ணியத்திற்கு வித்திட்ட ஷேக் பாத்திமா தலித் பெண்கள் பயிலுவதற்கான பழங்குடி நூலகம் எனும் தனி நூலகத்தை தொடங்கி நடத்தியவர்.
- ஒரே நேரத்தில் ஜோதிபா பூலே தொடங்கிய ஐந்து பள்ளிகளிலும் பணியாற்றிய தன்னிலமில்லா ஆசிரியை, 1856க்கு பிறகு அவர் என்னவானார் என்றே யாருக்கும் தெரியவில்லை.
- ஷேக் தியாவின் முதல் ஆசிரியை - இந்திய தலித் கல்வியின் முன்னோடி என வர்ணிக்கப்படும் சாவித்ரி பூலே - ஜோதிராவ் பூலே ஆகியோருக்கு கிடைத்த அதேயளவு மதிப்பும் மரியாதையும் கிடைக்கப்பெற வேண்டியவர்கள் தான் இந்த சகோதர - சகோதரி, ஷேக் உஸ்மான்-ஷேக் பாத்திமா ஆகிய இருவரும்.
- ஆனால் ஷேக் பாத்திமாவின் பிறப்பு-இறப்பு வருடம் கூட தெரியாத அளவிற்கு வரலாற்றில் அவர்களை பற்றி குறித்து வைக்காமலும் ஆவணப்படுத்தாமலும் விட்டுள்ளனர்.

- Fatima, who took the first step towards Dalit education in India, co-founded Dalit education with her friends Jyotirao Phule and his wife Savitribai Phule.
- While working at their school, which Fatima-Savitri started together, they were constantly intimidated and evicted by the upper class and deported.
- They sheltered the evictees and taught a part of their home to start a school.
- Fatima's brother Usman Sheikh started the first girls' school for Dalit children in India at his home in the Kanj Bad area of Pune.
- Savitri Poole asked Fatima Sheikh to go from house to house with her and send the girls to the academy, asking them to call the students for the school which started with just 9 students.
- The people of that time did not support them but were slapped in the face and chased out of the door saying that the stove was for women to study. That period was like that.
- Together with Savitri he established a Dalit-Muslim academy in 1848, for which his sacrifice was immense, and in 1875 the Muhammadan Anglo Oriental College, founded by Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, later became the famous Aligarh Muslim University.
- It is a pity that the recognition given to Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, a Muslim man, by Sheikh Fatima, a Muslim woman who came from an oppressed society and fought for the welfare and education of the underprivileged, was not available.
- Fatima Sheikh, who spoke out against caste oppression, is completely hidden from Indian history. Sheikh Fatima, who instilled feminism in post-independence India 150 years ago, started and ran a separate library, the Tribal Library for Dalit Women.
- The selfless teacher who worked in all five schools started by Jyotiba Poole at the same time, no one knows what he became after 1856.
- Both brother and sister, Sheikh Usman-Sheikh Fatima, deserve the same value and respect as Sheikh Tia's first teacher - Savitri Poole, described as the pioneer of Indian Dalit education - and Jyotirao Poole. But even the year of Sheikh Fatima's birth and death is unknown and undocumented in history.
