1.20 lakh family income of CM insurance scheme beneficiary increased - Government of Tamil Nadu Government Release

  • The annual family income of the beneficiary of the Chief Minister's Comprehensive Medical Insurance Scheme has been increased from Rs. 72,000 to Rs. 1.20 lakhs.
  • The Artist Insurance Scheme was launched by the Government of Tamil Nadu in 2009 to enable the poor and low-income earners to avail life-saving medical treatment at government and private hospitals.
  • Under this scheme each beneficiary's family is insured for free treatment up to Rs. 1 lakh. The scheme was expanded on January 11, 2012 under the name of Chief's Comprehensive Medicare Scheme and is being implemented across the state.
Bill raising the age of marriage for women sent to the Standing Committee
  • The current age of marriage for men in India is 21 and the minimum age for marriage for women is 18. One party has repeatedly called for raising the minimum age for marriage to 21 for women as well as men.
  • In this context, the Union Cabinet recently approved a bill to raise the minimum age of marriage for women from 18 to 21.
  • Union Minister Smriti Irani has asked the Speaker to send the bill to the Parliamentary Standing Committee if MPs from all opposition parties strongly oppose it. Subsequently, the Child Marriage Prevention Act (Amendment) Bill 2021 was referred to the Parliamentary Standing Committee.
Appointment of Officer of Indian Descent as US-Tibet Affairs Coordinator
  • The US government has appointed Asra Zoya, an embassy official of Indian descent, as special coordinator for Tibetan affairs. He is currently the US Secretary of State's Secretary of State for Public Security, Democracy and Human Rights.
An allocation of Rs. 7,500 crore to improve roads under the Infrastructure Development Program
  • The Government of Tamil Nadu has allocated Rs. 7,500 crore for this year's Integrated Road Infrastructure Development Project under the National Highways in Tamil Nadu. Further, under the Chief Minister's Road Safety Development Plan, 255 km of four lanes are being upgraded at a cost of Rs. 2,123 crore.
  • 639 km of roads are being upgraded to two lanes at a cost of Rs.865 crore. 96 km of roads are being upgraded at a cost of `412 crore under the Urban Road Development Program. Roads are being strengthened at a cost of Rs 750 crore and bridges at a cost of Rs 117 crore. Rs 200 crore has been earmarked for the road safety scheme.
  • Improving the quality of vehicle use on 2,356 km of roads at a cost of Rs 768 crore. All roads are being upgraded at a cost of Rs.7,500 Crore. 
Rs 1,000 crore revolving fund for 16 lakh women in Uttar Pradesh - Prime Minister Modi has launched
  • With Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh set to take place early next year, Prime Minister Modi is leaving Prayagraj. There she provided a revolving fund of Rs 1,000 crore to about 16 lakh female members of self-help groups. Today's meeting was attended by 2 lakh women.

  • Chile, one of the Latin American countries, held presidential elections last Sunday. Gabriel Borik and Republican Jose Antonio contested on behalf of the Left Alliance. Gabriel Borick, 35, who ran for the Left Alliance, won with 55.87 percent of the vote. His opponent, Jose Antonio, received 44.13 percent of the vote.

Hat-trick of Indian achievements by world swimmer Srihari Nataraj
  • The Short Course World Swimming Championships are being held in Abu Dhabi. Srihari Nataraj of India set a new record in the men's 100m freestyle. In the qualifying round of the tournament, Srihari Nataraj of Bangalore reached the target in 48.65 seconds. Srihari Nataraj finished 38th at the end of all the qualifying rounds.
  • However, Srihari Nataraj is proud to be the fastest Indian swimmer in the short distance swimming category at the World Swimming Championships.
Passage of the Electoral Law Amendment Bill at the State level
  • The Electoral Law Amendment Bill allows billing officials to ask those who want to be new to the voter list to cast their ballots. The bill was passed in the Lok Sabha by voice vote amid opposition opposition, with the opposition insisting that it be sent to a parliamentary standing committee for consideration.

India's record in renewable energy production
  • India's installed renewable energy capacity is the 4th highest in the world. As on 30 November 2021, a total of 150.54 GW of renewable energy generation plants (including large scale hydropower projects) have been set up in the country.

  • Following its intensive action plan for study and adherence to the recommended deadline, the government has launched the seventh round of open competition licensing, the project's international competition.
  • Applications can be submitted till 12 noon on February 15, 2022 on the exclusive e-auction website. Contracts will be awarded and completed by the end of March 2022.   • The agreement provides for joint national consultation between the two Ministries of the Central Government, the concerned departments in the State Governments, selected educational institutions and organizations working in the field of promotion of small grains.
Enforcement of Plastic Waste Management (PWM) Amendment Regulation 2021 in Small, Medium and Medium Enterprises
  • The Federal Ministry of Environment had issued a notification regarding the Plastic Waste Management Amendment Rules. New Ambassador to China Pradeep Kumar Rawat
  • Pradeep Kumar Rawat has been appointed as India's next ambassador to China. Rawat, a 1990 IFS officer, is currently serving as Dutch ambassador. Rawat already has experience working in Beijing and Hong Kong. He has also served as the Indonesian Ambassador and is fluent in Chinese.
