Kidambi Srikanth wins BWF World Championship silver medal

  • This is the first time India has won two medals in the men's singles at the World Championships on Sunday. Kidambi Srikanth has done this feat.
  • Srikanth, who had earlier faced Singapore's Lo Keen Yu in the final, lost in straight sets 15-21 20-22 in 43 minutes.
  • India has won many bronze medals before. Kidambi Srikanth, 28, won the silver medal while Prakash Padukone (bronze in 1983), P Sai Praneeth (bronze in 2019) and Lakshya Sen (bronze medalist this year) won bronze.
Consultative meeting between India & Central Asian countries on the situation in Afghanistan
  • A consultative meeting between India and 5 Central Asian countries on the Afghan situation was held in Delhi yesterday. Indian Foreign Minister Jaishankar, Foreign Ministers of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan were present.
  • In it, the ministers expressed their strong support for a peaceful, secure and stable Afghanistan, and stressed the need to respect the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of war-torn Afghanistan and its interference in its internal affairs.
  • They also issued a joint statement saying that under UN resolution, Afghan soil should not be used as a shelter, training, planning or funding for terrorist activities.
  • The international community and the United Nations have called for immediate humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people.
Meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on the situation in Afghanistan
  • A meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on the Afghan situation was held in Islamabad, Pakistan.
  • It was attended by foreign ministers and UN representatives from 30 Muslim countries. In it, the world community was urged to provide humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan.
Discovery of the borehole in the Keeladi
  • Keeladi in Sivagangai district, 7 phases of excavations have been carried out by the Union Government 3 times and the Government of Tamil Nadu 4 times. The Archaeological Survey of Tamil Nadu has applied to the Union Government for a draft plan for the 8th phase of excavations.
  • Under this condition a pit was dug by machine to remove the rain water which had accumulated for the last 20 days in the field of Balan. Then a 7-layer borehole appeared in one part of the pit. So far 18 boreholes ranging from two layers to 32 layers have been found in the bottom excavation.

MK Stalin unveiled the statue of Professor Anbalagan

Under the Jal Jeevan movement, the central government has allocated Rs 10,180 crore to Rajasthan in 2021-22
  • The Government of India will provide full support to all states to provide piped water supply to all rural households in the country by 2024.
  • To assist the State of Rajasthan in achieving the target, Rs. Union Water Resources Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat has approved a central allocation of Rs 10,180 crore. This is a four-fold increase over the Rs 2,522 crore allocated in 2020-21.
  • As of today, more than 8.67 crore (45.15%) rural households have piped water supply in their homes. As on 15 August 2019, the Jal Jeevan Movement announced by the Prime Minister, out of 1.01 crore rural households in Rajasthan, 11.74 lakh (11.5%) had piped water supply.
  • Since its inception, 9.65 lakh households (9.5%) in Rajasthan have been provided with piped water connections. Today, 21.39 (21.1%) lakh rural households in the state have access to piped water in their homes.
  • The status of drinking water supply in Rajasthan is gradually changing due to this project. By 2021-22, the state plans to provide piped water connections to about 30 lakh rural households.

  • 200 beehives of Khadi Village Industries Authority, 100 electric wheels and 50 agarbati machines were donated at the event. This will create employment for more than 600 locals. To this end, the Khadi Village Industries Authority has provided vocational training at the homes of the beneficiaries.
