127.31 crore to Tamil Nadu under the National Afforestation Program

  • The Green India National Plan is one of the eight projects being undertaken under the National Program for Climate Change. The project aims to increase the forest cover in the country and tackle climate change.
  • Under the Green India program, the Ministry of Environment and Forests has not received any project from the Government of Tamil Nadu.
  • However, Rs. 127.31 crore has been procured for Tamil Nadu from 2000-01 under the National Afforestation Program. Under afforestation, management and compensation scheme, Rs.113.42 crore has been provided to increase greenery in Tamil Nadu till 2021-22.
The Prime Minister addressed the farmers at the National Conference on Natural Agriculture
  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi addressed the National Conference on Natural Agriculture through a live video presentation to the farmers. The event was attended by Union Ministers Mr. Amit Shah, Mr. Narendra Singh Tomar, Governor of Gujarat, Chief Ministers of Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh.

  • There are a total of 56 shops in the mall. Each store is built on 200 to 400 square feet. Of these, 18 shops are reserved for food sales and there is ample parking for visitors to accommodate 128 cars and 340 two-wheelers at a time.
  • Work on the urban square, under the Kattippara flyover, began in 2018. With all these works recently completed, Chief Minister MK Stalin opened them for public use.
Union Cabinet approves electoral reform bill
  • The Electoral Reform Bill, which has been approved by the Union Cabinet, seeks to link the Aadhaar Card with the Voter ID, although this link is not mandatory. It is important to note that this link is subject to individual discretion.
  • The bill states that the Aadhaar number-voter ID card link will work to prevent the same person from obtaining voter ID cards at different addresses.
  • Another important feature of the bill is that while voting currently takes place in school and college buildings, the Election Commission can no longer take control of any building to conduct voting for elections.
  • Therefore, this Electoral Reform Bill has been amended to give the Election Commission the power to take control of any building such as shopping malls, wedding halls, etc. and to conduct elections there.
  • New voters over the age of 18 will be given the opportunity to add their name to the voter list only once a year, while those over the age of 18 will no longer be given the opportunity to add their name to the voter list 4 times a year.
