Manjapai campaign to eradicate plastic - Government of Tamil Nadu

  • Tamil Nadu has banned 14 types of disposable plastic items that are harmful to the environment and has been in force since January 1, 2019. There is a lack of public cooperation in implementing this. So to date the government has not been able to fully implement the plastic ban.
  • In this context, the government had announced in the last session of the Legislative Assembly that a people's movement against this type of plastic products would be launched by the Pollution Control Board.
  • Following this, the government has issued a proclamation on behalf of the Pollution Control Board to re-use the traditional yellow bag of the people of Tamil Nadu and to start a movement called 'Yellow Bag Again' as a rule to get rid of disposable plastic.

  • Incumbent Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian, who has served as the mayor of Chennai, is also interested in health-related sports, including the marathon. Corona, who has been effective since taking over as Tamil Nadu health minister, has been lauded by many as a great achievement in reducing the number of infections a day.
  • Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramaniam was presented with the award titled 'Outstanding Response for Corona' at an awards ceremony held at the House of Commons in London.
Approval for implementation of Rs. 225.24 crore worth drinking water supply projects in Uttarakhand
  • In the state of Uttarakhand, Rs. 225.24 crore worth drinking water supply projects were approved at the State Level Project Approval Committee meeting held on November 26, 2021. Of the 12 drinking water projects allowed, 11 are for multiple villages and one for a single village. This will provide piped water to 19,000 rural households.
  • As of today, 7.41 lakh (48.79%) out of 15.18 lakh rural households in the state have piped water supply. The state plans to provide piped water connections to 2.64 lakh households by 2021-22.
  • Under the Jal Jeevan Movement, there is a state-level project approval committee to consider and approve projects to be undertaken to provide piped water supply to rural households. Nominated by the National Jal Jeevan Movement of the Government of India and is a member of the Committee.
  • The Jal Jeevan project is being implemented to implement Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi’s vision of ensuring clean tap water in every home and to free women and girls from the hassle of bringing water from afar.
