Cabinet approves PM's PMGKAY extension for another four months

• As part of the economic reaction to Kovit-19, the Union Cabinet has approved the extension of the Prime Minister's Poor Welfare Scheme (PMGKAY-Part V) for another four months, from December 2021 to March 2022.
• As per this decision, all the beneficiaries under the National Food Security Act (Antyodaya Food Scheme and Priority Families), including those under direct benefit transfer, will be provided with 5 kg of food automation per person per month free of cost.
• The first and second phases of the project were implemented from April to June 2020 and from July to November 2020 respectively. The third phase of the project was implemented from May to June 2021. The fourth phase of the project is currently being implemented for the months of July-November, 2021.
• The additional food subsidy for the fifth phase from December 2021 to March 2022 will be Rs. It is estimated to cost Rs 53344.52 crore. The total output of food grains for the fifth phase will be around 163 lakh metric tonnes. Overall, Phase 1 to 5 of the Prime Minister's Poverty Alleviation Program is estimated to cost the state about Rs 2.60 lakh crore.

Union Cabinet approves privatization of power supply and retail business in Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu

• The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the launch of a company (special cause scheme) to privatize power supply and retail in Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu.
• The privatization drive will provide enhanced service to more than 1.45 lakh customers at Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu, setting an example for nationwide development and delivery efficiency.
• This will increase competition in the electrical industry and increase the amount of arrears. The ‘Autonomous India Plan’ was launched by the Government of India in May 2020 to transform India into a self-sufficient country through structural reforms.
• Under the plan, reforms in power supply and retail in the Union Territories will be carried out through privatization. In the name of Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu Electricity Distribution Corporation, a wholly owned state-owned distribution company and trust (s) will be set up to manage the periodic benefits of employees who will be transferred to the newly started company.

Union Cabinet approves Ocean Services, Modeling, Application, Resources and Technology (O-SMART) Project

• The Union Cabinet on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, today approved the implementation of the Ocean Services, Modeling, Utilization, Resources and Technology (O-SMART) Source Plan at a cost of Rs. 2,177 crore till 2021-26.
• The project will cover seven sub-projects: Ocean Technology, Ocean Modeling and Consulting Services (OMAS), Ocean Oriented Structure (OON), Ocean Biodiversity Resources, Deep Sea Biodiversity Resources and Ecology, Coastal Research and Function and Research Vessel Maintenance.
• Over the next five years (2021-26) the project will strengthen and expand operations by providing precision technology that can be used in the deep sea.

Cabinet approves extension of National Vocational Training Program for another five years

• Under the National Vocational Training Program, a monthly stipend of Rs. 3,054 crore to be allocated by the Prime Minister Mr. Approved by the Cabinet Committee on Central Economic Affairs headed by Narendra Modi.
• With this approval, the scheme under the Ministry of Education has been extended from 2021-22 to 2025-26 (31-03-2026).

The Minister of Defense inaugurated the 5th World Conference on Disaster Management

• Defense Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the Fifth World Conference on Disaster Management. Improving land and sea defense capabilities; Working towards sustainable regional development; Blue economy; And its objectives are to encourage joint action to deal with threats such as natural disasters, piracy and terrorism.
• The 5th World Conference on Disaster Management will be held from November 24 to 27 at the IIT campus in New Delhi. The event is organized under the theme ‘Technology, Funding and Capacity to Build Disaster Resilience Perspective from the Covit-19 Perspective’.

Approval for the proposal to build 3.61 lakh houses under the Prime Minister's Urban Housing Scheme

• The 56th Meeting of the Central Approval and Monitoring Committee of the Prime Minister's Urban Housing Scheme was held in New Delhi on 23 November 2021 under the chairmanship of Mr. Durga Shankar Misra, Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.
• The meeting approved the construction of a total of 3.61 lakh houses in 17 states and union territories. A total of 19,535 houses have been sanctioned for the urban migrant and poor with a grant of Rs 39.11 crore to use the new technology.

Thotiyam police station is ranked 8th among the best police stations

• Thottiyam police station: Tiruchirappalli in Tamil Nadu has been ranked 8th in the list of 10 best police stations in India (the annual ranking of police stations for the year 2021) released by the Union Home Ministry.
• The top 10 police stations in India are selected annually based on data analysis, live surveillance and public feedback on police stations in the country.

Government publishes Rs 114 crore library in Madurai in Karunanidhi's name

• Sangath Tamil Valartha Rs. 99 crore for construction of 2 lakh sq.ft. The government decides that a total of Rs 114 crore can be given as administrative sanction and financial transfer. 

Rs 659 crore substations, transformers - Chief Minister MK Stalin started

• Considering the need to set up additional substations for balanced power supply, the Tamil Nadu Electricity Transmission Corporation and the Tamil Nadu Power Generation and Distribution Corporation are in the process of setting up new and upgraded substations as required, setting up additional transformers in existing substations and increasing capacity.
• In that regard, 230 KV substations worth Rs. 357 crore 98 lakh 96 thousand have been set up in Trichy - Tuvakkudi, Chennai - Mambalam and Tirupati districts. Apart from this, 7 substations with a capacity of 110 KV at a cost of Rs.88 Crores. Chief Minister MK Stalin inaugurated a video conference of 20 substations worth a total of Rs 517.39 crore.

• The Women's Big Bash League is Australia's most popular 20-over cricket series. This year's Women's Big Bash League kicks off last month with 8 teams competing. Indian player Harmanpreet Keller, who plays for the Melbourne Renegades, has been selected as the best player in the 2021 Women's Big Bash League.

The first ISO certified government school kitchen in Tamil Nadu

• Corporation Girls' High School is functioning in Karungalpalaiyam, Erode District. More than a thousand students are studying here.

The Union Ministry of Defense has approved the production of AK-203 rifles at a cost of Rs 5,116 crore

• The Union Ministry of Defense has approved the production of 7.5 lakh AK-203 rifles in collaboration with Russia at a cost of Rs 5,116 crore.
• The official agreement will be signed when Russian President Vladimir Putin visits India next month. In the first phase, about 20,000 rifles will be purchased at a cost of Rs. 80,000 per AK203 rifle.
• Thereafter 6,01,427 AK-203 rifles will be manufactured at Indo-Russia Rifles Pvt. Ltd., Amethi, Uttar Pradesh.
