Ishri Ganesh takes over as President of the Tamil Nadu Olympic Association

  • Vander Ishri K. Ganesh, Founder of the University of Wales, was unanimously elected President by the 28 recognized Olympic Sports Associations under the auspices of the Association, which is held every four years.
GST, Rs 40,000 crore compensation; Central government allocation to states
  • The federal government is compensating states and union territories for the loss of revenue caused by the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST). In the current financial year, the GST was estimated to provide compensation of Rs 1 lakh crore to the states and union territories through additional tax collection.
  • In addition, it was decided at the 43rd GST Council meeting to provide Rs 1.59 lakh crore on the basis of repayable loans. Accordingly, it was estimated that the states and Union Territories would receive a total of Rs 2.59 lakh crore in compensation in the current financial year.
  • Of this, Rs 75,000 crore was disbursed to the states in July. Currently, a further Rs 40,000 crore has been allocated.
India's GDP to grow by 8.3% - World Bank forecast
  • The World Bank has forecast that India's gross domestic product (GDP) will reach 8.3 per cent in the current financial year (2021-22).The World Bank said in a statement that the growth was due to factors such as increased government investment and incentives to increase production.
  • The growth rate for the current financial year is projected to be 8.3 per cent, taking into account growth up to June. It is projected to be 7.5 per cent next year. However, the RBI has forecast that the country's GDP will reach 9.5 per cent in the current financial year.

Mosquirix - WHO approves world's first malaria vaccine
  • If there has been a nasty problem internationally for years it is malaria infection. More than 4 lakh people die of malaria every year. The malaria vaccine was first developed in 1987 by the British pharmaceutical company GSK.
  • The trial of the Mosquirix vaccine first began in 1987. The vaccine was found to prevent up to 50% of severe malaria cases in the first year. The last phase 3 test conducted in 2014 confirmed that the vaccine provides immunity up to about 36%.
  • The vaccine has been tested in Ghana, Kenya and Malawi since 2016. The incidence of malaria has been significantly reduced in all 4 countries in this trial program. The Mosquirix vaccine has since been approved by the World Health Organization.
