In the Bhavanipur by-election, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee won

  • Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who contested from Nandigram constituency in the West Bengal Assembly elections last April, lost. However, he was sworn in as prime minister.
  • Subsequently, by-elections were held two days ago in Bhawanipur and Samsarganj and Jangipur constituencies where the polls were suspended. Mamata Banerjee contested from Bhavanipur constituency.
  • Mamata Banerjee, who was in the lead from the beginning, won by 58,832 votes more than the BJP candidate at the end of the polls. Similarly, Trinamool Congress candidates won in Samserganj and Jangipur constituencies.
