- பெண்கள் அரிதாக சுதந்திரப் போராட்டத்தில் பங்கேற்ற இருண்டலூர் அஞ்சலையம்மாள். 1921-இல் கடலூர் வந்திருந்த காந்தியடிகளின் உரையைக் கேட்டு பொது வாழ்வில் நுழைந்தவர்.
- சென்னை மவுண்ட் ரோடிலிருந்த ஆங்கிலேய ராணுவ அதிகாரி நீல் எனும் கொடியவனின் சிலையை அகற்றும் போராட்டம் ந.சோமயாஜுலு தலைமையில் 1927-இல் நடைபெற்றது. அதில் பங்கேற்று சிறை சென்றவர் அஞ்சலையம்மாள்.
- அவருடன் அப்போராட்டத்தில் பங்கேற்ற அவரின் மகள் அம்மாப்பொண்ணு சிறுமியர் சிறையில் நான்காண்டுகள் வைக்கப்பட்டிருந்தார். அடுத்த நாள் அதே போராட்டத்தில் பங்கேற்ற அஞ்சலையம்மாளின் கணவர் ரா.முருகப்பனும் சிறை புகுந்தார்.
- சிறைமீண்ட அம்மாப்பொண்ணுவை காந்தியடிகள் வார்தா ஆசிரமத்திற்கு வரவழைத்து லீலாவதி எனப் பெயரிட்டு அங்கேயே தங்க வைத்திருந்தார்.
- பேச்சாற்றல் மிக்க அஞ்சலையம்மாள் ஊர் ஊராகச் சென்று மக்களிடையே விடுதலையுணர்வைத் தட்டியெழுப்பினார். சென்னையில் தடை செய்யப்பட்டிருந்த காங்கிரஸ் மாநாட்டில் பங்கேற்பதற்காக அஞ்சலையம்மாளும் அவரால் அழைத்துச் செல்லப்பட்ட மகளிர் பலரும் கைது செய்யப்பட்டனர்.
- 1930-இல் சென்னை சோழிங்கநல்லூரில் நடைபெற்ற உப்பெடுக்கும் போராட்டத்தில் பங்கேற்று மூன்று மாதச் சிறைத் தண்டனையும், 1931-இல் கடலூரில் நடைபெற்ற உப்பெடுக்கும் போராட்டத்தில் பங்கேற்று ஆறு மாதத் தண்டனையும் பெற்றார். கடலூர் போராட்டத்தில் கணவர் முருகப்பனும் பங்கேற்று ஆறு மாதச் சிறைத் தண்டனை பெற்றார்.
- வேலூர் பெண்கள் சிறையில் அடைக்கப்பட்ட அஞ்சலையம்மாள் அப்போது ஆறு மாதக் கர்ப்பிணி. நான்கு மாத சிறைவாசத்திற்குப் பிறகு பிரசவத்திற்காக ஒருமாத பரோலில் வெளிவந்தார். ஆண்குழந்தை பிறந்தது. ஜெயில்வீரன் என்று பெயரிட்டனர். 15 நாள் பச்சைக் குழந்தையுடன் மீண்டும் சிறைக்குள் சென்றார்.
- கள்ளுக்கடை மறியலுக்காக ஒன்பது மாதங்கள் பெல்லாரி சிறையிலும், அந்நியத் துணி எதிர்ப்புப் போராட்டத்துக்காக ஆறு மாதங்கள் சென்னை சிறையிலும் இருந்துள்ளார்.
- 1936-இல் தென்னார்க்காடு ஜில்லா கவுன்சில் உறுப்பினரானார். 1937, 1946-இல் கடலூர் தொகுதி சட்டமன்ற உறுப்பினரானார்.
- 1940-இல் தனிநபர் சத்தியாகிரகத்தில் ஈடுபட்டு ஆறு மாதங்கள் கண்ணூர் சிறையிலும், 1941-இல் தடுப்புக் காவல் சட்டத்தின் கீழ் பதினெட்டு மாதங்கள் வேலூர் சிறையிலும் கழித்தார்.
- தமிழக சிறைக்குள் அடைத்தால் எழுச்சி ஏற்பட வாய்ப்புள்ளதாகத் தெரிவித்து கண்ணூர் சிறையில் அடைக்க நீதிபதியை போலீஸார் வேண்டினர். கண்ணூர் சிறையில் அடைக்க நீதிபதி உத்தரவிட்டார்.
- இத்தனைக்குப் பிறகும் தடையை மீறியதற்காகவும், மீண்டும் தடுப்புக் காவல் சட்டத்தின்படியும் கைது செய்யப்பட்டு சிறையில் இருந்துள்ளார். ஒன்பது முறை சிறைப்படுத்தப்பட்டுள்ளார்.
- அஞ்சலையம்மாள். கணவர் ரா.முருகப்பன். மகள் அம்மாப் பொண்ணு, மகன் ஜெயில்வீரன், அம்மாப்பொண்ணுவின் கணவர் ஜமதக்னி என மொத்தக் குடும்பமே விடுதலைப் போரில் சிறைப்பட்டது. சித்திரவதைக்கு ஆட்பட்டது.
- Irundalur Anjalayammal where women rarely participated in the freedom struggle. He entered public life in 1921 after listening to Gandhiji's speech in Cuddalore.
- The struggle to remove the statue of Neil, a British army officer on Mount Road in Chennai, took place in 1927 under the leadership of N. Somayajulu. Anjalayammal took part in it and went to jail.
- His daughter Ammaponnu, who took part in the struggle with him, was imprisoned for four years. The next day, Anjalayammal's husband Ra. Murugappan, who had taken part in the same struggle, also went to jail.
- Gandhi brought the imprisoned mother to the Wardha Ashram and named her Lilavati and kept her there. The eloquent Anjalayammal went from village to village and tapped into the sense of liberation among the people. Anjalayammal and several women taken away by him were arrested for attending a banned Congress conference in Chennai.
- He was imprisoned for three months in 1930 for participating in the pickling protest at Cholinganallur, Chennai and for six months for participating in the pickling protest at Cuddalore in 1931. Her husband Murugappan also took part in the Cuddalore protest and was sentenced to six months in jail.
- Anjalayammal, who was lodged in the Vellore Women's Jail, was six months pregnant at the time. She was released on a one-month parole for childbirth after serving four months in prison. The male child was born. Named the Jailkeeper. Went back to jail with the 15 day green baby.
- Bellary was jailed for nine months for the anti-smuggling operation and for six months in Chennai for protesting against foreign clothing. In 1936 he became a member of the Southern District Council. Member of the Cuddalore Constituency Assembly in 1937 and 1946.
- In 1940 he engaged in individual satyagraha and spent six months in Kannur Jail and in 1941 he spent eighteen months in Vellore Jail under the Detention Act. The police asked the judge to imprison him in Kannur jail saying that there is a possibility of an uprising if he is imprisoned in Tamil Nadu. The judge ordered his imprisonment in Kannur.
- He has since been re-arrested and remanded in custody for violating the restraining order. He has been imprisoned nine times. Husband Ra. Murugappan. The whole family was imprisoned in the war of liberation as daughter Ammaponnu, son Jailveeran and Ammaponnu's husband Jamathakni. Subjected to torture.
